This vacancy is for a Physiotherapist at Tokollo District Hospital, a facility under the Department of Community Safety, Roads and Transport, offering appointment at Grade 1, Grade 2, or Grade 3 level. The role is central to the hospital’s rehabilitation and therapeutic services, providing assessment and treatment to in-patients, out-patients, and external stakeholders within the physiotherapy scope of practice. The successful candidate will work within a multidisciplinary environment and contribute to the broader functioning of the physiotherapy department, including administrative activities, quality assurance, and evidence-based programmes. The position is graded according to the Occupation Specific Dispensation for physiotherapists, and the level at which a candidate is appointed will depend on their years of relevant experience after registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA).

To be considered, applicants must hold a Grade 12 certificate and a Bachelor’s degree in Physiotherapy, or an equivalent qualification that allows registration with the HPCSA as a Physiotherapist. Current registration with the HPCSA for the 2026/2027 period is required. Experience requirements differ by grade: Grade 1 requires no experience after registration, Grade 2 requires a minimum of ten years of relevant professional experience, and Grade 3 requires at least twenty years of experience post-registration. The department seeks candidates with sound interpersonal and communication skills, the ability to work under pressure, and the capacity to function effectively in a multidisciplinary team. Computer literacy is an added advantage.

The core duties include assessing and treating patients, assisting with departmental administrative tasks, participating in quality assurance and evidence-based initiatives, and contributing positively to the development and growth of the physiotherapy department. The incumbent will also perform clinical supervision of physiotherapy students and participate in professional departmental programmes. A willingness to rotate across various physiotherapy-related areas and to perform overtime duties over weekends is essential.

Applicants should note that the selection process includes a personnel suitability check covering criminal record, financial checks, qualification verification, citizenship, references, and employment verification. Shortlisted candidates may be required to undergo pre-entry assessments, including a practical exercise and an integrity assessment. Successful candidates will be expected to enter into an employment contract and a performance agreement within three months of appointment and to undergo a security clearance. Foreign qualifications must be accompanied by a SAQA evaluation certificate, and non-South African citizens must provide proof of permanent residence if shortlisted. Applications must be submitted on the new Z83 form, and only shortlisted candidates will be asked to provide certified copies of documents. The department reserves the right not to fill the post, and correspondence will be limited to shortlisted candidates.
