This vacancy is for an Assistant Director: Statistician within the Northern Cape Division of the High Court, based in Kimberley, and falls under the broader Office of the Chief Justice. The role is a supervisory and analytical position that sits at the heart of the court’s data management and reporting functions. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the collection, collation, verification and analysis of data relating to Quasi-Judicial and Judge’s Secretaries, ensuring that the information is accurate, complete and fit for purpose. This includes checking data quality, validating monthly, quarterly and annual figures, and verifying Quasi-Judicial files and Judiciary information. The post holder will also be expected to package and present analysed data in a clear and accessible format, and to provide management with evidence-based advice and reports on statistical findings. In this way, the role directly supports informed decision-making within the judiciary.
Applicants must hold a National Diploma or Degree in Statistics, Economics, Mathematics, Accounting, or an equivalent qualification at NQF level six, as recognised by SAQA. In addition, a minimum of three years of practical and relevant experience in statistical analysis and reporting is required, of which at least one year must have been at a managerial or supervisory level, equivalent to salary level seven or above. The ideal candidate will bring a strong working knowledge of data collection, data collation and verification, data analysis, and information management. Excellent report writing skills, leadership ability, problem-solving capability, and computer literacy are essential, with particular proficiency in MS Office, especially Excel. Strong verbal and written communication, planning, organising, numerical and interpersonal skills are also required to succeed in this environment.
The duties of the post are wide-ranging and include managing and administering all data collected on Quasi-Judicial and Judge’s Secretaries, as well as coordinating the training of data collectors and the development of training manuals. The Assistant Director will supervise and develop Data Capturers and Legal Administration Clerks, and will play a key role in performance management. This includes managing the performance of Legal Administration Clerks through the signing of performance agreements, conducting mid-term reviews, and undertaking annual assessments. The role therefore combines technical statistical expertise with people management and administrative oversight, requiring a balanced approach to both data integrity and staff development.
This is a permanent, level nine position within the public service, and the successful candidate will be required to sign a performance agreement upon appointment. The organisation has indicated that preference will be given to candidates in line with its Employment Equity goals, in accordance with the relevant legislative framework. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled statistician with supervisory experience who wishes to contribute to the efficient administration of justice in the Northern Cape.
