This is a contract vacancy for a Residence Housekeeping Supervisor at the Zwelitsha Campus of Lovedale TVET College, and it is a re-advertisement of an earlier post. The role sits within the college’s student residence environment, where the appointed person will be responsible for the day-to-day supervision, safety, and general wellbeing of students living in the hostel. As a male supervisor, the post is specifically aligned to the male residence, and the incumbent will act as a key link between students, the campus manager, and the bursary office. The position is graded at salary level 06 and includes a 37% allowance in lieu of benefits, reflecting its supervisory status within the college’s support staff structure.

Applicants need a Grade 12 certificate at NQF Level 4, or a certificate at NQF Level 5 in administration or an equivalent qualification, together with one to two years of relevant experience in supervising students in a college residence. A sound understanding of the policies and governance environment of a TVET College is essential, including knowledge of the annual reporting requirements expected by Higher Education Institutions. Familiarity with the broader Higher Education sector, its legislation, and relevant policies is also required. The role demands strong administrative skills, planning and organising abilities, financial management insight, report writing competence, problem-solving capacity, computer literacy, team leadership, and people management skills.

The duties are wide-ranging and centre on student welfare and residence management. The supervisor will ensure and monitor the wellbeing of students, conduct residence induction, and facilitate the election of block leaders. They will manage the flow of information and documents between the campus manager and bursary office, provide conflict management support to students including in the dining hall, and help draft the residence code of conduct. Administrative responsibilities include maintaining household records, handling admissions, allocating rooms based on admission criteria, pass rate, seniority, and first-come-first-served principles, distributing and collecting application forms with supporting documents, verifying information on the COLTECH system, and filing student deposit slips and indemnity forms. The supervisor must also keep a written record of students leaving the residence after hours, prepare and submit monthly reports on hostel activities and incidents, and set up and administer the duty roster. Safety is a major focus: the post requires regular rounds to ensure students and their belongings are secure, providing basic emergency first aid and summoning medical assistance when needed, and ensuring students know escape routes, fire regulations, and equipment. The supervisor is also responsible for the maintenance and management of residence property and infrastructure, identifying damages, reporting them for repairs, and ensuring all buildings and premises remain in good condition.

Lovedale TVET College is an equal opportunities employer and encourages people living with disabilities to apply. The college reserves the right not to fill the post or to withdraw it at any time. All applications must include a fully completed and signed Z83 form and a comprehensive CV with at least three contactable references; foreign qualifications must be accompanied by a SAQA evaluation report. Shortlisted candidates will be subjected to personnel suitability checks, including criminal record, citizenship, and qualification verification, and may also undergo pre-entry assessments covering practical technical suitability and integrity. The successful candidate will be required to annually disclose financial interests and declare any conflicts of interest. If applicants have not been contacted within six months of the closing date, they should consider their application unsuccessful. Communication is limited to shortlisted and successful candidates only.
