This position is for an Administration Officer specialising in Employer Services, based at the Provincial Office of the Department of Employment and Labour in KwaZulu-Natal. The role sits within the broader Public Employment Services environment, which focuses on connecting work seekers with employers and ensuring that labour market services are delivered effectively across the province. The incumbent will be expected to support the department’s mandate by handling administrative processes related to international cross-border labour migration, which involves the movement of workers across South Africa’s borders in line with relevant legislation and international conventions. This is a functional administrative post that requires a solid understanding of the legislative framework governing employment services, immigration, unemployment insurance, and compensation for occupational injuries and diseases.

To be considered for this role, applicants must hold an undergraduate qualification at NQF level 6, recognised by SAQA, in a relevant field such as Social Science with a focus on Psychology, Public Management, Public Administration, Business Management, or Business Administration. In addition, at least one year of functional clerical or administrative experience within Public Employment Services is required. The department is looking for someone with working knowledge of the ILO Conventions, financial management, human resource management, skills development, the Immigration Act, the Employment Service Act, the Unemployment Insurance Act, the Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases Act, the Public Finance Management Act, and the Public Service Act. Strong skills in planning and organising, oral and written communication, computer literacy, analytical thinking, presentation, interpersonal relations, report writing, and information management are essential for success in this post.

The core duties of the Administration Officer will include providing administrative support for the processing of applications related to international cross-border labour migration. This involves ensuring that applications are handled accurately and timeously, in line with legislative requirements. The officer will also render administrative support for stakeholder relations, specifically in the acquisition of placement opportunities for work seekers. This means liaising with employers and other key partners to secure job placements and maintain productive relationships. Furthermore, the role requires providing operational and technical support to labour centres across the province, helping them deliver effective employer services. The officer will also support capacity building for ESSA end users, which refers to users of the Employment Services System of South Africa, ensuring they are properly trained and supported to use the system effectively. Finally, the position involves coordinating provincial opportunities from key stakeholders and the department’s own placement service opportunities, ensuring that all available job openings are captured and distributed appropriately.

This is a permanent post graded under the Occupation Specific Dispensation, and the salary level is aligned with that grading. The department has set employment equity targets for this vacancy, specifically favouring Indian males, Indian females, and persons with disabilities. Applicants should note that the closing date is clearly indicated in the advertisement, and all applications must be submitted through the prescribed channels, either by post, hand delivery, or online submission to the designated provincial email address. Enquiries may be directed to the contact person listed in the advertisement. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced administrative professional who is passionate about public employment services and wants to contribute to labour market efficiency in KwaZulu-Natal.
