The Assistant Director: Auxiliary Services position is a supervisory-level post based at Sekutupu Old Age Home, operating within the broader public service framework of the Limpopo provincial department. This role is central to the smooth day-to-day functioning of the facility, ensuring that all non-core but essential support services are delivered efficiently, safely, and in line with government regulations. The incumbent will be responsible for overseeing a range of auxiliary functions that directly affect the wellbeing of residents and the effectiveness of staff, making this a role that requires both operational discipline and a service-oriented mindset. As an OSD-graded position at level 09, the post carries managerial responsibility and requires a candidate who can balance administrative oversight with hands-on coordination of multiple service areas.
To be considered for this role, applicants must hold a Grade 12 certificate as well as an appropriate qualification at NQF level 6 in Logistics, Public Administration, Public Management, or an equivalent field recognised by SAQA. In addition, a minimum of three years of relevant experience at a lower management or supervisory level is required. A valid motor vehicle driver’s licence is essential, although an exception is made for persons with disabilities. The ideal candidate will demonstrate sound knowledge of Public Service Regulations, relevant Acts, policies and procedures, as well as the Public Finance Management Act. Strong communication and listening skills, good interpersonal relationships, the ability to handle pressure, conflict management, policy analysis and interpretation, report writing, problem analysis, and analytical thinking are all key competencies. Honesty, confidentiality, and a strong customer care ethic are also expected.
The duties of the post are wide-ranging and include rendering office administration services, coordinating catering services, and managing laundry services. The Assistant Director will also facilitate the provision of records management, monitor and manage office supply inventories, and coordinate timely procurement. Ensuring the implementation of occupational health and safety protocols in the workplace is a critical responsibility, as is quality control and compliance with health and food safety regulations. The role further requires ensuring compliance with service-level agreements or contracts with catering providers, conducting regular file audits, and ensuring timely archiving and disposal of obsolete records. In addition, the incumbent will be expected to manage the Human Resource Management and Finance sections, which means overseeing staff matters and financial processes within the auxiliary services environment.
This position is subject to several important conditions. Shortlisted candidates will undergo security clearance, verification of qualifications, and a personnel suitability check. They will also be required to undertake two pre-entry assessments, one practical and one integrity-based, to determine suitability for the post. Applicants with foreign qualifications must have them evaluated by the South African Qualifications Authority. The department is an equal opportunity and affirmative action employer, and women and people living with disabilities are particularly encouraged to apply. The employment decision will be informed by the department’s Employment Equity Plan. Candidates should note that the department will not cover any costs related to travel, accommodation, or meals for interview attendance. Applications must be submitted through the prescribed e-recruitment system, accompanied by the new Z83 form and a comprehensive CV, with certified documents required only from shortlisted candidates. Correspondence will be limited to shortlisted candidates, and those who do not receive feedback within three months of the closing date should consider their application unsuccessful.
