The Limpopo Department of Public Works, Roads and Infrastructure is offering a Graduate Internship Programme for the 2027/2029 intake, with three positions available within its Properties and Facilities Unit based in Sekhukhune District. This 24-month structured workplace experience opportunity is aimed at unemployed South African graduates who have never participated in a Public Service Graduate Internship programme in any government department. Interns will be appointed from 01 April 2027 to 31 March 2029 and will receive a monthly stipend in accordance with the Department of Public Service and Administration’s Directive on Employment of Persons on Developmental Programmes in the Public Service. The programme is designed to provide successful candidates with meaningful exposure to the operations of a provincial public works department, specifically within the properties and facilities environment.

To be considered, applicants must hold a National Diploma or Degree in Real Estate or Property Studies, or a National Diploma or Degree in Horticulture. These qualifications align with the core functions of the Properties and Facilities Unit, which is responsible for the management, maintenance and optimisation of the department’s property portfolio and related facilities. Interns will therefore be expected to undertake duties and responsibilities relevant to their study field, assisting with property administration, facilities coordination, and horticultural services as appropriate. The practical experience gained will help graduates develop competencies required for professional practice in their respective disciplines.

The department has outlined a rigorous selection and vetting process. Shortlisted candidates will be subjected to security clearance and verification of qualifications, and will be required to undertake two pre-entry assessments: a practical exercise to determine technical and generic suitability, and an integrity assessment to evaluate ethical conduct. The recommended candidate will also undergo a Personnel Suitability Check. Applicants with foreign qualifications are responsible for ensuring that their qualifications are evaluated by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA). All fields on the prescribed Z83 application form must be fully completed, and applications submitted through the e-recruitment system must be accompanied by a recent comprehensive CV and certified copies of relevant documents. Shortlisted candidates will need to submit certified copies of their Identity Document, Grade 12 Certificate and required qualifications to Human Resources before the interview.

The Department of Public Works, Roads and Infrastructure is an equal opportunity and affirmative action employer, and women and people living with disabilities are encouraged to apply. The employment decision will be informed by the department’s Employment Equity Plan. The department reserves the right not to make any appointment, and correspondence will be limited to shortlisted candidates only. Candidates who do not receive feedback within three months after the closing date should consider their application unsuccessful. The department will not cover any costs related to transport, accommodation or meals for candidates attending interviews. This internship offers a valuable opportunity for graduates in real estate, property studies and horticulture to gain hands-on experience within the public sector while contributing to the effective management of government properties and facilities in Limpopo.
