The Senior Administrative Officer for Accommodation and Auxiliary Services is a key operational post within the National Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment, based in Cape Town. The role is responsible for ensuring that the department’s physical working environment is functional, compliant, and well maintained, while also overseeing a range of auxiliary support services that keep the office running smoothly. This position sits within the broader management echelon of the department and requires a candidate who can balance administrative rigour with hands-on coordination, often under pressure. The incumbent will work closely with internal teams, service providers, and building management to ensure that accommodation needs are met and that facilities adhere to all relevant regulations.

To be considered for this role, applicants must hold a National Diploma at NQF level 6 in Public Management or an equivalent relevant qualification, together with at least two years of relevant experience in a related field. The department is looking for someone with extensive administrative experience and a sound working knowledge of administrative procedures, financial management, project management, human resource practices, and contract management. Familiarity with Public Service and departmental procedures is essential, as is the ability to apply policies consistently. Strong written and spoken communication skills, leadership and management abilities, coordination, planning, and report writing skills are all required. The successful candidate must also demonstrate problem-solving capabilities, the ability to gather and analyse information, and the capacity to work both independently and as part of a team. Given the demands of the role, the ability to work long hours voluntarily, organise and plan under extreme pressure, lead a multidisciplinary team, and resolve conflicts is critical.

The duties of the post are broad and include providing accommodation support services, assisting with accommodation needs assessments, facilitating office relocations, and ensuring facilities comply with building regulations. The officer will reconcile invoices against the commitment register, draft service level agreements and office accommodation bids, and provide monthly reports on maintenance and office inspections. In addition, the role involves administering auxiliary services such as hygiene services and food aid services, ensuring effective cleaning and hygiene provision across the Coastal Region, and processing logistics and invoices for the section. Stock must be reported on a monthly basis, and the officer will also be responsible for procuring goods and services as needed.

This is an equal opportunity, affirmative action position, and preference may be given to appointable applicants from underrepresented designated groups in line with the department’s equity plan. Persons with disabilities are encouraged to apply. Shortlisted candidates will be subjected to screening and security vetting, including criminal record, citizenship, credit worthiness, reference checks, and qualification verification. All applicants should note that personal information provided will be processed in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act. The department reserves the right not to make an appointment, and only successful candidates will be contacted.
