This position offers an opportunity to contribute to the development and implementation of transport policy within the Western Cape Government, specifically as an Administrative Officer focused on Transport Policies and Strategies within the Western Cape Mobility Department. The role sits at the heart of the provincial government’s efforts to shape public transport frameworks and align them with broader strategic objectives. The successful candidate will provide essential administrative and coordination support to the Transversal Transport Forum, a body that facilitates collaboration across government spheres on transport matters. This is a demanding but rewarding role for a detail-oriented professional who understands the public service environment and is keen to support modern governance, policy development, and operational management in the transport sector.

To be considered, applicants must hold an appropriate three-year National Diploma or a Bachelor’s degree, or an equivalent or higher qualification, and have at least one year of administrative support experience. Beyond these formal requirements, the role demands a broad and practical understanding of the legislative and regulatory frameworks governing public transport and public service administration. The ideal candidate will be familiar with the Public Finance Management Act, National Treasury Regulations, and provincial treasury instructions, as well as labour relations legislation and performance management processes. Knowledge of the Provincial Growth and Development Strategy, the Provincial Land Transport Framework, and the constitutional and institutional arrangements of the South African public sector is also essential. In addition, the officer should be able to use relevant software packages, manage information systems and databases, and perform basic human capital and financial administration.

The core duties are varied and centre on rendering line administrative support to the Transversal Transport Forum. This includes coordinating administrative management control activities, providing support to meetings, planning sessions, and workshops, and managing programme- or project-related resources. The role also involves research and development, which means the officer will need to support policy development, monitor and review processes, and assist with operational management. Procurement and tendering processes, general office administration, records management, and the coordination of projects all fall within the scope of this position. The officer will also be expected to understand regional and local political, economic, and social affairs that affect the provincial government, and to support the policies of the government of the day while working effectively with sister departments and related functional areas.

Shortlisted candidates should note that the selection process includes interviews, vetting and supporting documentation, and two pre-entry assessments: one practical exercise testing technical and generic suitability, and one integrity assessment. Reference checks will include enquiries about disciplinary records and reasons for leaving previous employment. The selection process will be guided by the employment equity targets of the department, and by applying, candidates consent to these checks. This is a full-time administrative post within a dynamic provincial department, offering a chance to make a tangible difference in the coordination and delivery of transport policies and strategies in the Western Cape.
