This position offers an opportunity to contribute to the operational efficiency of the Western Cape Mobility Department as an Auxiliary Officer specialising in Logistics and Asset Management. Based within the Western Cape Government, the role is a Level 07 post that sits at the heart of the department’s supply chain and financial administration functions. The incumbent will be expected to ensure that all logistics-related processes are executed in line with the legislative and regulatory frameworks governing the Public Service, including the Public Finance Management Act, National Treasury Regulations and Provincial Treasury Instructions. The work is practical and hands-on, requiring a solid understanding of how government systems such as PERSAL, BAS and LOGIS operate, as well as the ability to apply relevant policies and best practices to daily tasks.
To be considered for this role, candidates must hold an appropriate three-year tertiary qualification, such as a National Diploma, B-Degree or higher, in Supply Chain Management or Finance. This must be accompanied by at least one year of relevant working experience in either supply chain management or finance. Beyond the formal qualifications, the department is looking for individuals with a demonstrated grasp of logistics and asset management administration, including the ability to capture asset management data accurately and maintain reliable statistics. Strong computer literacy, effective communication skills, and the capacity to manage projects and perform operational management functions are also essential. The successful candidate will need to show proficiency in numeracy and literacy, conduct financial and statistical analysis, and understand the legal and audit requirements associated with public sector financial processes.
The core duties of the role revolve around the full administration cycle of logistics. This includes managing logistics requisitions, overseeing logistics purchases, and ensuring that logistics payments are processed correctly and timeously. In addition, the position involves general office administration and carries supervisory responsibilities, meaning the officer will be expected to guide and oversee the work of others in the unit. The role demands strong organisational skills, the ability to plan and prioritise work activities, and a customer-focused approach to service delivery. Problem-solving, sound decision-making, and creative thinking are equally important, as is the ability to work effectively under pressure, meet tight deadlines, and occasionally work irregular hours when required.
Shortlisted candidates should be prepared for a rigorous selection process. This includes attending interviews on a date determined by the department and submitting duly completed and signed vetting and supporting documentation within a specified timeframe. Failure to provide these documents without reasonable justification may result in disqualification from the process. All shortlisted applicants will also undergo two pre-entry assessments: one practical exercise testing technical and generic suitability for the post, and another assessing integrity and ethical conduct. The selection process will be guided by the employment equity targets of the department, and by applying, candidates consent to the Western Cape Government contacting previous employers for references, including enquiries about disciplinary records and reasons for leaving. This is a demanding but rewarding role for a detail-oriented professional seeking to build a career in public sector logistics and asset management.
