This position offers an opportunity to contribute to the smooth functioning of the Emergency and Clinical Services Support directorate as an Administration Clerk specialising in Human Resources Management, based at the Cape Medical Depot. The role sits within a public service environment where accurate and compliant HR administration is essential to supporting frontline emergency and clinical services. As the administrative backbone for personnel and salary matters, the incumbent will ensure that human resource processes are executed correctly and in line with legislative and policy frameworks. This is a hands-on clerical role that requires both precision and a solid understanding of public service HR practices.

To be considered, applicants must hold a Grade 12 Senior Certificate or an equivalent qualification. In addition, appropriate experience in human resources is required, meaning that candidates should already be familiar with the practical administration of HR functions. A valid driver’s licence is an inherent requirement of the job, as is a willingness to travel and work overtime when operational needs demand it. The role calls for strong computer literacy, specifically in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams, as well as the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Good interpersonal and communication skills are essential, along with sound organising and numerical abilities. A thorough knowledge of HRM policies and practices, the Public Service Act, Public Service Regulations, and collective agreements relating to personnel and salary administration is expected. Familiarity with PERSAL, the personnel and salary system used in the public service, is also a key requirement.

The main duties of the post revolve around the full spectrum of personnel and salary administration. This includes performing all administrative tasks related to the maintenance of employee records, the processing of personnel actions, and the correct application of human resource rules and procedures. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining effective record-keeping systems and assisting with the management of registers, ensuring that information is accurate, up to date, and easily retrievable. The role also involves providing effective support to the supervisor, which may include preparing documentation, responding to queries, and assisting with day-to-day HR coordination. Furthermore, the position includes performing all administrative duties pertaining to recruitment and selection, from advertising and shortlisting to interview arrangements and the processing of appointment documentation.

This is an OSD-graded post within the provincial government, and the salary level is set accordingly. It is important to note that no payment of any kind is required when applying for this position, and applicants should be wary of any requests for money. All short-listed candidates may be required to undergo a competency test as part of the selection process. For further details, prospective applicants are encouraged to contact the named enquiry official listed in the advertisement. This role is well suited to a detail-oriented HR administrator who thrives in a structured, policy-driven environment and is committed to supporting the broader public service mission.
