This position offers an opportunity to contribute to the financial and administrative backbone of a public healthcare support environment. Based at the Head Office in Cape Town, the Administration Clerk will work within the Management Accounting directorate, providing essential support to the component and its deputy director. The role sits at the intersection of general office administration and financial operations, making it ideal for someone with a strong administrative background who is comfortable handling numbers, reports, and compliance-related documentation. The successful candidate will help ensure that the directorate runs smoothly, from managing correspondence and filing systems to processing financial transactions and supporting audit preparation.
To be considered, applicants must hold a Senior Certificate or equivalent qualification. Practical experience in administrative or financial support within a healthcare environment, or in revenue generation, is required. The role also demands a valid Code B/EB driver’s licence and a willingness to travel and spend time away from the office. Strong computer literacy in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook is essential, as is a high level of numeracy and the ability to interpret financial reports. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, interpersonal abilities, and planning and organising skills are also key to succeeding in this position.
The duties are varied and include providing general administrative support such as drafting correspondence, monitoring generic email inboxes, maintaining digital filing records, tracking submissions for approval, managing the asset register with quarterly verifications, and processing staff leave records. On the financial side, the clerk will handle petty cash requests, source quotes, place orders, capture requisitions on the Logis system, arrange staff travel and accommodation, monitor invoices for supply chain management, process journals on BAS, and respond to queries. The role also involves assisting with the compilation and submission of finance-related reports and preparing documentation for internal and external audits.
Effective communication is a central part of the job. The clerk will monitor incoming calls and emails directed to the deputy director, acknowledge receipt, respond where appropriate, manage the deputy director’s diary, and coordinate appointments and Microsoft Teams meetings. Operational support includes organising workshops and meetings by reserving venues, setting up audiovisual equipment, arranging catering, inviting relevant staff, and acting as committee clerk to record, draft, and distribute agendas and minutes. This is a dynamic role that requires multitasking, attention to detail, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. As with all government posts, no payment of any kind is required when applying.
