The Government Printing Works (GPW) is offering a 24-month graduate internship opportunity in Talent Management, based in Pretoria. This placement forms part of the institution’s broader Graduate Programme for the 2027/2029 financial year, designed to give unemployed South African graduates meaningful workplace exposure in the human resources and training environment. As a Talent Management intern, the successful candidate will be embedded within the human resources development or talent management unit, working alongside experienced professionals while gaining structured, on-the-job learning. The programme is intended to bridge the gap between academic study and professional practice, with a strong emphasis on developing competencies in recruitment, retention, career development, performance management, and other talent-related functions within the public service context.

To be eligible, applicants must hold at least a National Diploma or a Degree in Human Resource Development, Management of Training, or Human Resources Management. These qualifications ensure that the intern has the necessary theoretical grounding to contribute meaningfully to the directorate’s work. Candidates must be unemployed, be South African citizens, and must not have previously participated in an internship programme anywhere. Importantly, applicants are required to disclose any prior internship participation truthfully, because failure to do so will result in immediate termination of the internship contract on the grounds of dishonesty or undue enrichment.

The duties of the intern are those of a structured learner rather than a permanent employee. Under the supervision of experienced professionals, the intern will receive formal and informal training relevant to talent management, and will actively participate in workplace activities, projects, and capacity-building initiatives. This may include assisting with the administration of recruitment and selection processes, supporting employee onboarding and induction, helping to coordinate training and development programmes, maintaining human resource records, and contributing to talent retention strategies. The intern will be expected to engage fully with the assigned work, demonstrate a willingness to learn, and apply their academic knowledge to real-world challenges within the Government Printing Works.

Applications must be submitted in accordance with the advertisement’s instructions, using the prescribed Z83 application form and ensuring that all required fields are completed, signed, and initialled. Shortlisted candidates will need to produce certified copies of their qualifications and related documents before or on the day of the interview, and those with foreign qualifications must have them evaluated by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA). The selection process may include personnel suitability checks, and successful candidates will be required to enter into an employment contract and performance agreement. By applying, candidates consent to the processing of their personal information under the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA). Correspondence is limited to shortlisted candidates, and any applicant who has not been contacted within three months of the closing date should consider their application unsuccessful. The Government Printing Works reserves the right to fill or not fill the post.
