The Government Printing Works (GPW) in Pretoria is offering a 24-month graduate internship focused on integrity management and investigations. This structured programme is designed for unemployed South African graduates who wish to gain meaningful workplace exposure within a public sector environment. The successful intern will be placed in a unit dedicated to integrity management and investigative functions, where they will work under the supervision of experienced professionals. The role provides an opportunity to apply academic knowledge to real-world cases and institutional processes, while also developing practical skills in areas such as ethics, anti-corruption measures, forensic investigations, and governance compliance. As part of the broader GPW Graduate Programme for the 2027/2029 financial year, this internship is intended to build a pipeline of competent graduates ready for future public service employment.

To be considered for this post, applicants must hold a National Diploma or a Degree in Investigation, Policing, Law, or Social Sciences. This academic background ensures that the intern has a foundational understanding of legal principles, investigative methodologies, or social dynamics relevant to integrity management. In addition, applicants must be South African citizens and must not have previously participated in any internship programme. It is crucial that applicants disclose any prior internship experience, as failure to do so will result in immediate termination of the contract on the grounds of dishonesty or undue enrichment. Candidates with foreign qualifications must ensure that their qualifications are evaluated by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) before applying.

The main duties of the intern include active participation in workplace activities, projects, and capacity-building initiatives within the integrity management and investigations placement area. The intern will receive structured training and work exposure tailored to their field of study, allowing them to develop competencies in conducting preliminary investigations, compiling reports, handling confidential information, and supporting senior investigators in their daily functions. The work is expected to be hands-on, with the intern contributing to the unit’s objectives while learning about the legislative and ethical frameworks that govern public administration. The intern will also be expected to adhere to professional standards and maintain the highest level of integrity, given the sensitive nature of the work.

Shortlisted candidates will be required to attend interviews at a date and time determined by the GPW and may be subjected to personnel suitability checks as part of the selection process. Successful candidates will need to enter into an employment contract and performance agreement. The GPW reserves the right to fill or not fill the advertised post. By applying, candidates consent to the collection and processing of personal information in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA). Applicants should note that only those who comply with the application requirements will be considered, and correspondence will be limited to shortlisted candidates. Those who do not receive a response within three months after the closing date should consider their application unsuccessful.
