The Government Printing Works (GPW) invites suitably qualified unemployed graduates to apply for a 24-month Graduate Programme internship for the 2027/2029 financial year. One placement is available under the Operations Planning stream, based in Pretoria. This is a structured work-integrated learning opportunity aimed at equipping graduates with practical workplace exposure in a production-oriented government environment. The internship is designed to bridge the gap between academic study and the professional demands of operations and production management, giving the successful candidate hands-on experience under the guidance of experienced practitioners.
Applicants for the Operations Planning post must hold a National Diploma or Degree in Operations Management, Production Management, or Project Management. These qualifications are essential to ensure that the intern can meaningfully contribute to the planning and coordination functions within the organisation. The role is open only to South African citizens who are currently unemployed and who have not previously participated in an internship programme. Importantly, applicants must disclose any prior internship participation, as failing to do so may result in immediate termination of the contract on grounds of dishonesty or undue enrichment.
The core duties of the intern will include receiving structured work exposure and training directly relevant to the field of operations planning. The intern will be expected to actively participate in workplace activities, contribute to projects, and take part in capacity-building initiatives. This work will be carried out under the supervision of experienced professionals, providing a supportive environment for developing practical skills in areas such as production coordination, resource planning, process improvement, and project execution. The placement is intended to give the intern a comprehensive understanding of how operations planning functions within a large public sector printing organisation.
Candidates who are shortlisted will be required to submit certified copies of their qualifications and other relevant documents before the interview date, and these documents must align with the requirements of the advert. Those with foreign qualifications must ensure their qualifications are evaluated by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA). Personnel suitability checks will be conducted as part of the selection process, and successful candidates will be required to enter into an employment contract and performance agreement. By applying, candidates consent to the collection, processing, and storage of their personal information in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA), and this information will only be used for the recruitment process.
Applicants should note that applications must be submitted using the new Z83 application form, obtainable from any Public Service Department or online. Each post advertised requires its own fully completed, signed, and initialled application form, and the correct job title and reference number must be included in the subject line of the email. Applications submitted on the old Z83 form, via fax, or received after the closing date will not be considered. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted, and if no response is received within three months of the closing date, applicants should regard their application as unsuccessful. The Government Printing Works reserves the right to fill or not fill the advertised post.
