The Government Printing Works (GPW) in Pretoria is offering a 24-month graduate internship in Contract Management, with two positions available. This opportunity forms part of the GPW’s Graduate Programme for the 2027/2029 financial year, which is specifically designed to provide unemployed South African graduates with meaningful workplace experience within a public sector environment. The internship is aimed at bridging the gap between academic study and professional practice, giving successful candidates the chance to develop competencies in contract management while contributing to the operational objectives of the organisation. As an intern, you will be placed within the supply chain management (SCM) environment, where you will receive structured exposure to the full lifecycle of contract administration, from planning and procurement through to monitoring and performance evaluation.
To be considered for this internship, applicants must hold a degree in Supply Chain Management or Procurement. This is the core academic requirement, as the programme is intended to complement and apply the knowledge gained through these fields of study. In addition, applicants must be South African citizens and must be currently unemployed. A critical condition is that candidates must not have previously participated in any internship programme. This must be disclosed honestly, as failure to do so will result in immediate termination of the internship contract on the grounds of dishonesty and undue enrichment. Candidates who obtained their qualifications outside South Africa are responsible for having their qualifications evaluated by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) before applying.
The main duties of the internship revolve around active participation in workplace activities, projects, and capacity-building initiatives under the supervision of experienced professionals. Interns will receive structured work exposure and training that is directly relevant to their field of study and aligned with the placement area. This means you will be expected to engage with real contract management tasks, support the team in preparing and reviewing contract documentation, assist with compliance monitoring, and contribute to the efficient administration of procurement processes. The programme is designed to be developmental, so you will also take part in training sessions and other initiatives that build your professional skills and prepare you for future employment in the public service.
The selection process includes personnel suitability checks, and shortlisted candidates must be available for interviews at a date and time determined by the GPW. Successful candidates will be required to enter into an employment contract and performance agreement. Applications must be submitted using the prescribed application form, with the correct job title and reference number indicated as instructed. Only shortlisted candidates will be asked to submit certified copies of qualifications and related documents. The GPW reserves the right to fill or not fill the advertised posts. By applying, candidates consent to the collection, processing, and storage of personal information in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA). If you do not receive a response within three months of the closing date, you should consider your application unsuccessful. This internship offers a valuable opportunity to launch your career in contract management within a key government institution.
