INVITATION TO SERVE AS AN AUDIT COMMITTEE MEMBER In terms of section 76(4) and 77 of the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA) read with chapter 3 of Treasury Regulations, applications are invited from the interested independent and suitably qualified persons to serve on the Audit Committee of the National School of Government for a period of three (3) years.

The National School of Government is inviting suitably qualified and independent individuals to serve on its Audit Committee for a three-year term, as mandated by the Public Finance Management Act and Treasury Regulations. This is a part-time, committee-based position located in Pretoria, contributing directly to good governance and oversight within a key public sector institution. The committee reports to the Executive Authority and the Accounting Officer of the School, and is expected to meet at least four times every financial year. Members are remunerated for both preparing for and attending meetings, in line with the applicable Treasury Regulations. This is a prestigious opportunity for experienced professionals who wish to apply their expertise in the public interest and help shape the stewardship of a national training institution.

Ideal candidates must hold a relevant degree in Accounting, Auditing, Risk, Legal, or Information Technology, with a postgraduate qualification considered an added advantage. At least ten years of senior or executive experience in one of these specialised environments is required, along with no fewer than five to ten years of direct experience serving on audit or risk committees, ideally within the public sector. Membership of a recognised professional body in the relevant field strengthens an application, as does a solid working knowledge of the PFMA, Modified Cash Standards, GRAP, or GAAP. In addition to technical expertise, candidates must demonstrate unwavering integrity, dedication, a sound understanding of public sector business and control environments, strong communication skills, and the intellectual inquisitiveness and independent judgement necessary for rigorous oversight.

The primary purpose of the Audit Committee is to provide independent oversight and advice on the School’s risk management, internal control, governance, and compliance arrangements. The duties include reviewing external and internal audit findings, monitoring management accounts and the annual financial statements, and ensuring that information technology systems are adequately controlled and governed. The committee will advise the Accounting Officer in the effective execution of his or her responsibilities, thereby helping to build trust and confidence in how the National School of Government is managed. All responsibilities are discharged in accordance with chapter 3 of the Treasury Regulations issued under the PFMA, as well as the Audit Committee Charter. The work requires a serious time commitment, but offers the chance to make a meaningful contribution to public sector accountability.
