This internship opportunity is based within the Northern Cape Division of the High Court, part of the Office of the Chief Justice, and is aimed at providing a structured work-based learning experience for a recent graduate. The successful candidate will join the court’s administrative environment as one intern, gaining practical exposure to the functioning of the judiciary and the public service. The programme is designed to complement a formal qualification in public management or office management, allowing the intern to apply theoretical knowledge in a real institutional setting while developing professional competencies under the guidance of experienced staff. The role is situated in the Northern Cape, and the intern will be expected to contribute to the smooth running of court administration and support services.
To be considered for this internship, applicants must hold a Grade 12 certificate as well as a three-year National Diploma in Public Management or Office Management at NQF level 6, with 360 credits, recognised by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA). An equivalent qualification at the same NQF level and credit value will also be accepted. This educational requirement is essential, and applicants must ensure that their qualifications meet the stated criteria before applying. Those with foreign qualifications must have them evaluated by SAQA and must include the evaluation certificate with their application.
The core duties of the intern will revolve around administrative and office management support within the High Court. This includes assisting with the processing and management of documents, maintaining files and records, supporting the court registry and administrative sections, and performing general clerical tasks as directed. The intern will also be expected to assist with coordination of office activities, liaise with internal and external stakeholders, and undertake any other responsibilities that fall within the scope of the internship programme. The aim is to provide a comprehensive learning experience that builds practical skills in public administration, communication, record-keeping, and professional conduct within a judicial environment.
Applications must be submitted on the new Z83 application form, accompanied by a comprehensive CV that includes contactable referees with telephone numbers and email addresses. The application form must be fully completed, signed, and initialled on both pages, and must clearly indicate the job title, the office where the position is advertised, and the reference number. Applications submitted on the old Z83 form will not be considered. All documents should be sent in PDF format and placed in a single folder. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted and will be required to submit certified copies of their qualifications and other relevant documents before the interview. Shortlisted candidates will also undergo two pre-entry assessments: one practical exercise testing technical and generic suitability, and one integrity assessment. Consent may be required for access to social media accounts, and successful candidates will be subjected to personnel suitability checks including criminal record, financial, qualification, citizenship, reference, and employment verification. All successful candidates will be expected to enter into an employment contract and a performance agreement within three months of appointment, and to undergo a security clearance. The Office of the Chief Justice adheres to the Protection of Personal Information Act, ensuring that personal data is used solely for recruitment purposes. If applicants do not receive feedback within three months of the closing date, they should consider their application unsuccessful. The department reserves the right not to make any appointment.
