This internship opportunity within the Office of the Chief Justice offers two successful candidates the chance to gain hands-on experience in court administration at the National Office in Midrand. As part of the broader internship programme, the role is designed to equip recent graduates with practical skills and exposure to the administrative workings of the judiciary. Interns will be placed within a professional environment that supports the core functions of the courts, contributing to the smooth operation of court processes while developing competencies in public and office management. The programme serves as a structured entry point for graduates seeking to build a career in the public sector, particularly within the justice system.
Applicants must hold a Grade 12 certificate as well as a three-year National Diploma or Degree in Public Management or Office Management, or a relevant equivalent qualification, all at NQF level 6 with 360 credits as recognised by SAQA. This educational background ensures that interns have the foundational knowledge required to understand administrative systems, record-keeping, and the organisational dynamics of a government institution. The qualification requirement is strict, and candidates with foreign qualifications must ensure their credentials are evaluated by the appropriate authorities before applying.
The core responsibilities of the interns will revolve around supporting court administration functions. This includes assisting with the management of case files, maintaining accurate records, preparing documents, and providing general administrative support to court officials and managers. Interns will also be expected to help with the coordination of court activities, liaise with internal stakeholders, and perform any other duties that contribute to the efficiency and effectiveness of the National Office. Through these tasks, interns will gain a deeper understanding of how the judiciary operates, how cases flow through the system, and how administrative policies are implemented in practice. The role is ideal for individuals who are organised, detail-oriented, and eager to learn in a fast-paced public service environment.
There are several important conditions attached to this internship. All applications must be submitted on the new Z83 form, accompanied by a comprehensive CV, and must be fully completed, signed, and initialled on both pages. Failure to do so will result in disqualification. Shortlisted candidates will be required to submit certified copies of their qualifications and other documents before the interview, and all shortlisted candidates will undergo two pre-entry assessments: a practical exercise to test technical and generic suitability, and an integrity assessment. Applicants may also be asked to consent to access to their social media accounts as part of the vetting process. Successful candidates will be required to enter into an employment contract and a performance agreement within three months of appointment, and will undergo a security clearance. The Office of the Chief Justice adheres to the Protection of Personal Information Act, ensuring that all personal data shared during recruitment is handled confidentially and used solely for recruitment purposes. Correspondence is limited to shortlisted candidates, and those who do not hear back within three months of the closing date should consider their application unsuccessful. This internship offers a valuable opportunity for graduates to contribute to the administration of justice while gaining meaningful workplace experience.
