This internship opportunity within the Office of the Chief Justice is based at the National Office in Midrand and is aimed at a candidate who wishes to gain practical workplace experience in the field of human resource management and development. The successful intern will be placed within the Human Resource Management and Development unit, where they will be exposed to the full spectrum of HR functions in a public sector environment. This includes recruitment and selection support, employee development initiatives, organisational design, performance management, and the application of HR policies and procedures. The role is ideal for a recent graduate who has completed a three-year National Diploma in Human Resource Management, Human Resource Development, or Industrial Psychology at NQF level 6 with 360 credits, or an equivalent qualification recognised by SAQA. A Grade 12 certificate is also required. The internship provides an opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge in a real-world setting, to understand the legislative framework governing the public service, and to develop professional competencies under the guidance of experienced HR practitioners.

The main duties associated with this internship will involve assisting with the day-to-day administration of human resource functions, such as processing personnel records, supporting recruitment and selection processes, preparing correspondence and reports, and helping to coordinate training and development activities. The intern may also be involved in capturing and verifying HR data, assisting with employee wellness and industrial relations matters, and providing general support to the HR team. Attention to detail, confidentiality, and the ability to work in a structured environment are essential, as the role requires handling sensitive employee information in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act. The intern will be expected to learn quickly, follow instructions, and contribute to the smooth running of the HR unit while adhering to the ethical standards of the judiciary.

Applicants should note that the selection process is rigorous. All applications must be submitted on the new Z83 form, accompanied by a comprehensive CV, and must indicate the correct job title, office, and reference number. Only shortlisted candidates will be asked to submit certified copies of qualifications and other documents before the interview. Shortlisted candidates will be required to undergo two pre-entry assessments: a practical exercise testing technical and generic suitability, and an integrity assessment. Consent may also be required for access to social media accounts. Successful candidates will be expected to enter into an employment contract and a performance agreement within three months of appointment, and to undergo a security clearance. The Office of the Chief Justice reserves the right not to make an appointment, and correspondence will be limited to shortlisted candidates. If no feedback is received within three months of the closing date, applicants should consider their application unsuccessful. This internship is an excellent stepping stone for a graduate seeking to build a career in human resources within the South African public service.
