This position offers an opportunity for a qualified geomatics professional to contribute to the integrity of South Africa’s land administration system as a Cadastral Officer within the Examination, State and Land Reform Surveys Services directorate. Based in Polokwane, Limpopo, the role is a level 06 post and involves the full lifecycle management of cadastral records, from capturing new survey data to maintaining historical archives and supporting spatial data accuracy. The successful candidate will work within a government environment that relies on precise, legislatively compliant documentation to define land parcels, leases, servitudes and sectional title schemes.

To be considered, applicants must hold a Grade 12 certificate alongside a National Certificate in Geomatics or a Survey Officer Certificate at NQF Level 5, and must have completed the prescribed training required to fulfil the qualification. The role demands computer literacy, a solid understanding of spatial data, and knowledge of the functions of Surveyors’-General Offices. In addition, the ideal candidate will demonstrate good interpersonal relations, strong verbal and written communication skills, proficiency with relevant computer software, and sound organisational ability.

The core duties are varied and technically detailed. The officer will capture alpha and numeric information from newly submitted cadastral documents, perform mathematical consistency checks, and verify data for proposed new land parcels. This includes updating cadastral survey databases with every approved document, capturing and verifying historical cadastral records, and maintaining these documents in line with legislated processes. Specific tasks involve withdrawing or cancelling documents, deducting and endorsing registered land parcels, leases or servitudes, amending approved documents, inserting new approvals into the archive, extracting and issuing records, refiling returned documents, and repairing records to keep them usable. The role also requires conducting technical examinations of cadastral documents, diagrams, general plans, survey records and sectional title plans, as well as updating noting sheets with every approved land parcel.

Another significant responsibility is the supply of cadastral information to both internal and external clients. This includes issuing survey data to land surveyors, disseminating information to the public in hard copy or digital formats, and providing aerial photographs, rectified imagery and maps from the National Geo-spatial Information unit according to signed service level agreements. The officer will also capture and maintain spatial data, checking newly submitted documents for spatial overlaps prior to approval, adding new land parcels to spatial datasets, and updating historical spatial information. Scanning duties form part of the workflow, with all approved, amended, endorsed or withdrawn documents scanned and linked to the alpha numeric data.

This is an advertised post with specific employment equity targets, particularly encouraging applications from Coloured, Indian and White males and females, as well as persons with disabilities. The role is suited to individuals who are meticulous, comfortable with both technical data and public interaction, and committed to maintaining the accuracy and accessibility of South Africa’s cadastral records.
