This position is for a Claims Credit Officer, with three posts available, based at the Provincial Office in Limpopo. The role sits within the Department of Employment and Labour, specifically in the area responsible for managing unemployment insurance fund payments and recovering money owed to the fund. As a Claims Credit Officer, you would be part of the team that ensures financial accountability by collecting outstanding overpayment balances from clients, maintaining accurate debtor records, and monitoring the payment of benefits to ensure they are made correctly. The work is administrative and financial in nature, requiring a strong understanding of government financial processes and the legislation that governs unemployment insurance.

To be considered for this role, you need a Grade 12 or Senior Certificate with Accounting or Mathematics as major subjects. The position is entry-level, requiring only zero to six months of relevant experience. You should have working knowledge of the Unemployment Insurance Act, the Unemployment Insurance Contributions Act, Generally Recognised Accounting Principles, and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. Familiarity with financial systems, departmental policies and procedures, the Public Finance Management Act, Treasury Regulations, and financial management processes is also essential. In terms of skills, you must be proficient in financial management, have strong verbal and written communication skills, be computer literate, and demonstrate good time management, planning and organising abilities. Analytical thinking, numeracy, and interpersonal skills are also required to deal with clients and maintain accurate records.

The main duties of the Claims Credit Officer involve collecting outstanding overpayment balances from clients, which means you will need to engage with debtors and follow up on payments. You will also be responsible for keeping all overpayment debtor records, both manually and electronically, ensuring that the information is up to date and accurate. Additionally, you will monitor the payment of benefits to clients, which involves checking that payments are made correctly and identifying any discrepancies that may lead to overpayments. This requires attention to detail and a methodical approach to record-keeping and financial monitoring.

There are some important additional notes for this vacancy. The department has an employment equity target, and priority will be given to Coloured Male, Coloured Female, Indian Female, White Male, and White Female candidates. This is a government position, so the appointment will be subject to the usual verification and security checks. Enquiries can be directed to the contact person named in the original advertisement at the provincial office. The post is advertised through the relevant circular, and interested applicants should ensure they follow the prescribed application procedures and submit their applications before the closing date. This is a good opportunity for someone with a basic financial background and an interest in public service to begin a career in financial administration within a provincial government office.
