This permanent position as a Specialist Functional Application Support sits within the IFASS division at SITA, specifically in the Transversal and Unique Systems unit, and is based at SITA Centurion. The core purpose of the role is to deliver functional application support services for designated application systems, ensuring that all service elements are delivered in line with the applicable service level agreements. The role operates in a government information technology environment and requires a professional who can bridge the gap between technical system functionality and the business needs of clients.
Candidates must hold a three-year bachelor’s degree or a National Diploma in ICT or a related field, alongside three to four years of experience in the ICT services industry. A significant portion of this experience must involve systems maintenance and support of mainframe systems. The role also demands a solid understanding of the client’s business, including business processes, policies, and operations, as well as expertise in business process management, software integration testing, system integration testing, user acceptance testing, and the implementation of acceptance testing procedures. Familiarity with enterprise business systems, software configuration and release principles, system implementation methodologies, customer relationship management, SITA internal processes, IT security standards, and service management principles is essential. Additionally, the successful candidate will need skills in client business process development and improvement, user requirement specification development, and application development. This includes the ability to specify and design software to meet defined requirements, evaluate alternative solutions, facilitate design decisions, and adapt software design models using both predictive and adaptive approaches. Implementation management, information management, business writing, and customer relationship management are also key areas, as is the ability to manage application maintenance and support services directly or through service delivery functions. Personal attributes such as active listening, attention to detail, analytical thinking, continuous learning, discipline, and stress management are required to perform effectively under pressure.
The main duties of the role involve providing business advisory services to clients, delivering functional application support services, providing implementation support, transferring skills to team members, and offering integrated management information support solutions to both clients and management. The work requires close collaboration with system developers and other technical specialists, such as database administrators and network support teams, to investigate and resolve issues, devise corrections, update documentation, manipulate data, and define enhancements. The role also encompasses the governance of information, ensuring that structured and unstructured data is used effectively to support decision-making and digital services. This is a demanding position that requires a disciplined, detail-oriented professional who can manage multiple responsibilities while maintaining high standards of service delivery. The role is advertised through the eServices government portal, and interested applicants should note the closing date and reference number associated with the vacancy.
