Learner Artisan x12 ( Matimba Power Station)

Eskom is offering twelve Learner Artisan opportunities at its Matimba Power Station, located in Lephalale, Limpopo. This apprenticeship-level position, graded at L5, sits within the Human Resources department and is designed for individuals who wish to pursue a formal trade qualification while gaining hands-on experience in a major power generation environment. The successful candidates will be placed across Eskom Operations divisions after completing a recruitment process, meaning the training is not limited to a single site but prepares learners for broader deployment within the organisation. The role is ideal for motivated, disciplined individuals who are ready to commit to a structured programme combining institutionalised theoretical learning with practical on-the-job training.

To be considered, applicants must be South African citizens and hold either a Grade 12 certificate supplemented by an N6, N5, N4, or N3 certificate in one of the recognised trades, or a Grade 12 certificate plus an NCV Level 4 qualification in the same fields. The eligible trades are Electrical, Instrumentation, Fitter, Fitter and Turner, Boilermaker, Welder, Plumber, Carpenter, Rigger, Civil, Millwright, and Bricklaying. Crucially, both the academic certificate and the trade-specific qualification must include Mathematics at 50% and Physical Science at 50%. No prior work experience is required, as this is an entry-level apprenticeship, but applicants must demonstrate the personal attributes and competencies needed to succeed in a technical and safety-conscious workplace.

The core responsibility of the Learner Artisan is to undergo the full apprenticeship programme, which includes attending formal training sessions and applying those lessons under supervision in the power station environment. Learners will be expected to develop practical skills in their chosen trade, adhere to Eskom’s policies and procedures, and work effectively as part of a team. The role demands strong communication, interpersonal, negotiation, and liaison skills, as well as professionalism, integrity, and a customer-focused attitude. Ideal candidates will be polite, prompt, energetic, self-starting, and assertive, with the ability to take direction and show leadership potential even at this early career stage.
