This permanent position offers an opportunity to serve as Administrative Officer for Information Management at Worcester Regional Hospital, within the Chief Directorate Rural Health Services of the Western Cape Department of Health and Wellness. The role sits at the intersection of healthcare delivery and data governance, ensuring that the hospital’s patient information, health records, and reporting systems are accurate, secure, and fit for purpose. In this capacity, the officer plays a central part in supporting evidence-based decision-making, quality improvement, and the smooth operation of day-to-day clinical and administrative processes through reliable data and information systems.
Candidates must hold an appropriate National Diploma at NQF Level 6 or an equivalent qualification. A valid driver’s licence is an inherent requirement, as is a willingness to travel and work overtime when operational needs demand. The role further requires appropriate experience in information management within a health provider environment, meaning the successful applicant should already be familiar with the practical realities of handling health data in a clinical or hospital setting. This is not an entry-level post; it expects both technical competence and an understanding of how information flows through healthcare services.
The duties are broad and multi-faceted. The officer is responsible for data management and quality assurance, which involves validating, auditing, and reporting on healthcare data to ensure it meets prescribed standards and remains compliant with regulations. This includes supporting data users and driving continuous quality improvement. In monitoring and evaluation, the officer analyses health data to track performance and support informed decision-making. The role also encompasses information systems management, specifically for hospital systems such as SINJANI, Clinicom, ECCR, Hectis, and SPV, by providing user support, monitoring data quality, controlling system access, and ensuring compliance with relevant policies. In addition, the position carries IT support and coordination duties, including managing helpdesk requests, maintaining IT assets, and ensuring system continuity. As a line function, the officer supervises staff, managing performance and development while upholding human resources policies and operational effectiveness. Finally, the officer supports the supervisor directly, acting in that capacity when required and assisting with stakeholder coordination to ensure uninterrupted service delivery.
The ideal candidate will be a logical thinker with meticulous attention to detail and a proven ability to produce accurate, reliable outputs in a deadline-driven environment. Advanced computer literacy in MS Windows applications — Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook — is essential. This is a demanding but rewarding post for a professional who enjoys combining technical information management skills with the mission-driven context of public health. The remuneration package includes an annual salary with service benefits such as a 13th cheque, pension fund contributions, and housing and medical aid allowances. The position is based at Worcester Regional Hospital and offers a stable career within a structured provincial health service.
