This permanent vacancy for two Staff Nurse posts offers an opportunity to join the Western Cape Department of Health and Wellness, with placements based at Caledon Clinic and Grabouw Community Health Centre. The roles are graded from Staff Nurse Grade 1 through Grade 3, meaning the appointment level depends on the candidate’s years of appropriate nursing experience after registration with the South African Nursing Council. Successful appointees will become part of a broader Ecosystem Service platform, and should therefore expect to render clinical services across institutions within that ecosystem as needed to sustain health service delivery. This is an important contextual point: although the posts are linked to specific facilities, flexibility and mobility across nearby institutions may be required.
To be considered, applicants must hold a qualification that allows registration with the South African Nursing Council as a Staff Nurse. Registration with the SANC as a Staff Nurse is an inherent requirement. However, a notable concession exists for health professionals who are applying for the first time for registration in a specific category with the relevant council, including individuals who must apply for a change in registration status. Such candidates may still apply even if they do not yet possess the stipulated registration, provided they submit proof of application for registration and proof of payment of the prescribed registration fees on or before the day of the interview. This concession applies only to first-time applicants in the relevant category. In terms of experience, Grade 1 requires no prior nursing experience, while Grade 2 requires a minimum of ten years of appropriate or recognisable nursing experience after SANC registration as a Staff Nurse, and Grade 3 requires a minimum of twenty years of such experience.
The key duties involve developing and implementing basic patient care, providing basic clinical nursing care, ensuring the effective utilisation of physical and financial resources, and maintaining professional growth, ethical standards, and self-development. Candidates must possess good communication skills, the ability to function independently as well as within a multi-disciplinary team to ensure good patient care, and basic computer literacy in MS Office. A willingness to work overtime when necessary is an inherent requirement of the job.
Applicants should note that no payment of any kind is required when applying for this post, and candidates may be subject to a practical test. The remuneration package includes an annual salary plus service benefits such as a 13th cheque, employer’s contribution to the pension fund, and housing and medical aid allowances. Enquiries may be directed to the contact person named in the advertisement. This is a permanent employment opportunity, and interested candidates are encouraged to review the full application instructions as provided in the original circular.
