    Job Purpose

    Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer. Review current South African Airways Technical (SAAT) practices in asset management (including inventory, property plant & equipment PP&E) and identify flaws (or assess adequacy) in the processes and audit gaps as well as make recommendations on how audit gaps should be addressed.

    Qualifications & Experience

    CA (SA) or equivalent - Essential Plus minimum 7 years’ experience as defined below - Essential

    Principal Accountabilities

    1.    Document SAAT processes on asset management a)    Obtain the knowledge and understanding of current SAAT asset management practices and thus properly document SAAT practices. b)    Identify and diagnose any flaws in SAAT asset management practices. c)    Assess any potential audit gaps that could result in new audit findings and propose suitable remediation. d)    Document Inventory and PP&E process flow from ''cradle to grave''. e)    Establish the appropriateness of the nature of journal entries processed in the SAAT General Ledger accounts. 2.    Investigate and close out to the satisfaction of senior management and the auditors any communicated audit findings a)    Review and understand the nature of communicated repeat audit findings and perform the necessary investigation to establish cause and effect. b)    Review and understand the nature of communicated new audit findings and perform the necessary investigation to establish root causes. c)    Propose plan of action to address communicated audit findings as well as mitigating measures to avoid re-occurrence. d)    Investigate and analyse from cause to effect the suspense account and make recommendations. 3.    Provide best practice on asset management for inventory and PP&E a)    Conduct and document research to establish best practice as far as inventory and PP&E is concerned. b)    Develop guiding principles and policy for Inventory and PP&E. c)    Develop standard operating procedures for Inventory and PP&E. d)    Develop suitable and effective internal controls. e)    Establish or construct a fixed asset register acceptable to the auditors. f)    Develop suitable procedures to conduct inventory stock count. 4.    Annual financial statements cleanup a)    Make meaningful contributions to the audit health plan. b)    Execute on certain initiatives and/or objectives of the Audit health plan. c)    Engage with the auditors and resolve or assist in resolving communicated audit findings. 5.    Adhoc duties a)    Take additional tasks that may be necessary to ensure that the annual financial statements are not materially misstated.
