This position offers an opportunity to serve as a Supply Chain Management Clerk Supervisor within the Dr Kenneth Kaunda District Supply Chain Management Directorate, based at the district office. The role sits within a provincial government department and is central to ensuring that the district’s procurement and supply chain processes run smoothly, ethically, and in line with public sector regulations. As a supervisor in this clerical environment, you will be responsible for overseeing and executing a range of demand and acquisition functions, which form the backbone of the district’s purchasing and supplier management activities.
To be considered for this post, candidates must hold a Grade 12 Certificate as a minimum, alongside an NQF 6 qualification or a BCom Degree in Supply Chain Management or a related management field. In addition, applicants need three to five years of relevant experience in supply chain management or a closely related environment. The role demands a solid grasp of client orientation and customer focus, as well as strong communication, planning, and organising abilities. Essential competencies include honesty and integrity, flexibility, computer literacy, good verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to work effectively within a team. These attributes are vital because the work involves interacting with internal stakeholders, suppliers, and contractors, and requires a high level of accuracy and accountability.
The core duties of the role are varied and hands-on. You will render demand and acquisition clerical support, which means helping to identify needs, prepare procurement processes, and ensure that acquisitions are properly documented and authorised. You will also update and maintain a supplier database, including contractors, and register suppliers on Logis or a similar electronic system. Other responsibilities include requesting and receiving quotations, capturing specifications on the electronic purchasing system, and placing orders. The role also involves issuing and receiving bid documents, providing secretariat or logistical support during bid consideration and contract conclusion processes, and compiling draft documents as required. This means you will be involved in the full procurement cycle, from initial demand to final contract award, and you must be comfortable working with detailed documentation and strict deadlines.
This is a supervisory clerical post, and it is important to note that the position is part of the broader provincial supply chain management structure. While the summary highlights the technical duties, the role also carries an expectation of professionalism and adherence to government procurement prescripts. As with all public service positions, equity considerations apply, and candidates from designated groups are encouraged to apply. Special conditions may include verification of qualifications, criminal record checks, and possibly security vetting. The successful candidate will be expected to uphold the highest standards of transparency and fairness in all supply chain transactions. This is a demanding but rewarding role for someone with a strong background in SCM, a keen eye for detail, and a commitment to serving the public through efficient and ethical procurement practices.
