The Department of Social Development in the North West Provincial Government is advertising a supervisory administrative position known as General Admin Clerk Supervisor. The successful candidate will be placed within the Directorate Restorative Services, specifically the sub-programme Substance Abuse, Prevention and Rehabilitation, and will be based at the Provincial Office. This is a pivotal support role that ensures the smooth day-to-day functioning of the component by delivering dependable administrative, supply chain and financial administration services, thereby enabling the unit to focus on its core mandate of substance abuse prevention, treatment and reintegration.
To be considered for this post, applicants must hold a Grade 12 certificate together with a Diploma or Bachelor's degree at NQF level 6 or 7, recognised by SAQA, in Public Administration, Public Management or Administration. A minimum of two to three years of relevant administrative experience is required. Advanced computer literacy is an added advantage, and a valid driver's licence is essential because the incumbent will be required to travel as part of their duties. The Department expects candidates to demonstrate a broad range of competencies, including supervisory capability, analytical thinking, sound financial management skills and solid computer literacy, particularly in the Microsoft Office package. Strong verbal and written communication skills at all levels, good interpersonal abilities, planning and organising skills, and the capacity to work independently while also contributing as a team member are all important. The role also requires the ability to perform under pressure, gather and analyse information effectively, and display flexibility and reliability. Conflict management skills are equally important, along with a willingness to work extended hours when necessary.
The core duties of the General Admin Clerk Supervisor are threefold. First, the incumbent will render general administrative support services to the component, which includes managing documentation, records, correspondence and other office processes to ensure an efficient and well-organised working environment. Second, the position entails providing supply chain support services within the component, covering procurement-related administration and the coordination of goods and services. Third, the role involves providing financial administration support services, meaning the incumbent will assist with matters such as budget administration, expenditure tracking and related financial record-keeping under the direction of management. These responsibilities are central to maintaining compliance, accountability and operational effectiveness within the restorative services directorate.
This vacancy is well suited to a detail-orientated, reliable administrator with prior supervisory experience who is passionate about contributing to the public good. Located at the provincial officehome, the post carries the expectation of regular travelling, so a valid driving licence is non-negotiable. Candidates should also be prepared for a dynamic and demanding work environment that supports one of the department's key social development programmes. Those who meet the educational and experiential requirements and who demonstrate the required competencies are encouraged to submit their applications before the advertised closing date, with the precise application instructions and reference details provided in the official circular.
