This position is a Senior Administration Officer role focused specifically on Transport, situated within the Chief Directorate of Corporate Services, under the Directorate of Support Services at the Provincial Office of the North West Department of Social Development. The role is a supervisory-level post within the public service, responsible for the overall management and oversight of the government fleet. Operating within a structured corporate services environment, the incumbent will be expected to ensure that all transport-related activities are fully aligned with departmental policies, national legislation, and the broader Batho Pele principles that guide public service delivery. This is an OSD-graded position requiring a blend of administrative expertise, operational control, and people management in a government fleet context.

To be considered, candidates must possess a three-year degree or a National Diploma in Transport Economics, Logistics Management, Public Administration, or an equivalent relevant qualification. In addition, applicants need between three and five years of relevant experience in Government Fleet Management within the Public Service, with at least two years of that experience at a supervisory level. The role demands excellent communication and interpersonal skills, sound knowledge of transport legislation, policies, and procedures, as well as computer literacy. A valid driver’s licence is essential, and an advanced driving qualification will be viewed as an added advantage. The ideal candidate will also demonstrate knowledge across a range of management areas including supervision, service delivery innovation, problem solving and analysis, client orientation, people management and empowerment, change management, programme and project management, records management, and a solid understanding of corporate services management in the public sector.

The main duties of the post are comprehensive and centre on the management of the government fleet in line with policy provisions. The successful candidate will be responsible for analysing and ensuring the timely submission of monthly Vehicle Management System reports, and providing various reports concerning accidents, renewal of vehicle disks, losses, and servicing. The role also involves implementing asset management procedures, conducting routine inspections to ensure compliance, and ensuring that the transport directorate adheres to all relevant policies, procedures, prescripts, and applicable legislation. A key function is the implementation of control measures designed to identify and prevent irregular, fruitless, and wasteful expenditure. In addition, the position carries direct responsibility for the management of personnel within the unit, meaning the officer will lead, supervise, and empower staff to achieve the directorate’s objectives.

The successful candidate will need to display well-developed competencies including programme and project management, change management, conflict resolution, and creative problem-solving. Strong presentation, networking, and knowledge management skills are also required, along with honesty, integrity, and effective teamwork. Given the nature of the work, applicants should possess an in-depth knowledge of the policy frameworks governing the public sector, a commitment to client orientation and customer focus, and an ability to manage people and processes efficiently. This vacancy is open within the provincial office, and the department encourages applicants to ensure they meet all requirements before applying. This summary serves as a complete overview of the role, covering its context, expected qualifications, core responsibilities, and the competencies required for success.
