    ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR / PROFESSOR

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    The successful candidate will be responsible for:

    Associate Professor/Professor:

    •    Leading curriculum design activities, with a specific emphasis on leadership.
    •    Undertaking fundraising activities to sustain the work of the ALLI.
    •    Building and maintaining relationships with stakeholders in both public and private sectors.
    •    Developing and managing postgraduate academic programmes.
    •    Conducting original multi-disciplinary and trans-disciplinary research or contract research projects, leading to peer-reviewed publications.
    •    Lecturing at postgraduate level.
    •    Supervising postgraduate students.
    •    Engaging with the community through programmes, short courses, and consultations.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    Associate Professor:

    •    A doctorate in Management and/or Leadership Sciences with a specialisation in Leadership studies;
    •    6 years of tertiary teaching experience on undergraduate and postgraduate levels;
    •    At least 7 accredited publications and/or equivalent recognised scholarly outputs, with a quality-adjusted publication score of at least 10 of which at least 3 of the accredited publications or equivalent recognised scholarly outputs should be in the last 5 years (accepted and/or published);
    •    Established research focus in Leadership studies;
    •    At least 4 completed Master’s students over the last 5 years.
    •    Evidence of consistent and continued supervision. Involvement with at least 2 doctoral students, 1 as the main supervisor;
    •    Evidence of Academic Citizenship/Professional Engagement;

    Professor:

    •    A doctorate in Management and/or Leadership Sciences with a specialisation in Leadership studies;
    •    9 years of tertiary teaching experience on undergraduate and postgraduate levels;
    •    At least 15 accredited publications and/or equivalent recognised scholarly outputs, with a quality-adjusted publication score of at least 25 of which at least 3 of the accredited publications and/or equivalent recognised scholarly outputs should be in the last 5 years (accepted and/or published);
    •    Established research focus in Leadership studies and an independent research agenda;
    •    Completion of at least 10 Master’s students;
    •    At least 2 completed doctoral students, with one as the main supervisor;
    •    Evidence of substantial Academic Citizenship/Professional Engagement;

    REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):

    Associate Professor / Professor:

    •    Strong language and communication skills;
    •    Proficiency in digital literacy and seamless integration of technology in teaching and research activities;
    •    Ability to effectively function in a team;
    •    Demonstrating respect for students, colleagues, and ideas from diverse cultural, social, and academic backgrounds;
    •    Being dependable, punctual, and accountable for tasks and responsibilities;
    •    Ability to understand and address the needs and concerns of students, fostering a supportive learning environment;
    •    Excellent teaching and research skills;
    •    Adherence to discipline-specific quality measures;
    •    Participation in curriculum, module and/or programme development;
    •    Independent administration and management of a module.

    •    Proven research track record in critical leadership studies;
    •    Proven research track record in complexity leadership studies;
    •    Proven research track record in African leadership studies;

    •    Proven research track record in leadership for economic, social and environmental justice;
    •    Experience in blended learning practices;
    •    Recipient of Teaching and Learning grant(s) or awards;
    •    NRF-rated or submitted application.

    The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbent’s level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines.  UP subscribes to the BESTMED and UMVUZO medical aid schemes and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.
