The Gauteng Tourism Authority (GTA) is offering a 24-month internship opportunity for a creative and motivated Multimedia Visual Content Creator, with a strong focus on photography and videography services. This role is designed to support the GTA and its consumer-facing brand, Visit Gauteng, in developing and delivering high-quality visual storytelling that promotes Gauteng as a leading destination for tourism, business, lifestyle, and events. The successful intern will become an integral part of the marketing and content production team, helping to capture the essence of the province through compelling images and video content that can be used across digital platforms, marketing campaigns, and stakeholder engagement initiatives.
The core purpose of this internship is to assist in the full production cycle of visual media, from planning and shooting to editing and final packaging. This includes capturing professional photography and videography that showcases Gauteng’s attractions, events, experiences, and people. The intern will be expected to develop both short-form and long-form video content tailored for social media, websites, and promotional campaigns, always ensuring alignment with the Visit Gauteng brand identity. In addition to creating original content, the role involves building and maintaining a centralised digital content bank. This means organising, cataloguing, tagging, and managing a comprehensive photo and video library, as well as archiving visual assets for future campaigns, media relations, and partner use. A key part of the role is also creating and scheduling content for various digital and social media channels, including Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, X, LinkedIn, and YouTube, while monitoring performance and suggesting improvements to boost audience engagement and destination visibility.
The role also extends to event and campaign support, where the intern will provide photography, videography, and livestreaming services for GTA and Visit Gauteng events, activations, exhibitions, and media engagements. This includes capturing real-time content and delivering post-event packages for marketing and media use. The intern will contribute to maintaining a consistent and recognisable visual profile for the Gauteng destination, ensuring all content adheres to brand guidelines. Furthermore, there is an opportunity to support the development of digital content partnerships with tourism stakeholders, influencers, and media organisations, helping to expand the reach of Gauteng tourism experiences through content sharing and collaboration. Engaging with municipalities, attractions, and industry partners to source destination content is also part of the role.
Applicants should have a Diploma, National Diploma, Degree, or another relevant qualification in Multimedia Production, Digital Media, or Visual Communication. Proficiency in photography and videography techniques is essential, including lighting, audio and video editing, and graphic design for creating visually appealing narratives. Basic experience in these areas, as well as demonstrable knowledge of camera operations, lighting, audio recording, and post-production processes, is required. The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in online marketing, digital media, and social media, and be comfortable providing photography and photo editing for social media or websites. A flexible schedule is necessary, as the role may require working on weekends and holidays. The GTA is looking for someone with a genuine enthusiasm for graphic design, social media, and digital marketing, who is an avid user of social platforms and has skills in digital design and copywriting. Strong computer skills, including familiarity with Mac applications and the Microsoft Office suite, are also required. This internship offers a valuable opportunity to build a professional portfolio while contributing to the promotion of one of South Africa’s most vibrant provinces.
