Security Officer

This position offers an opportunity to serve as a Security Officer within the Compensation Fund, based in Pretoria, where the successful candidate will be responsible for safeguarding the organisation’s personnel, assets, buildings and premises. Operating within the broader public service framework, the role is housed under the Sub-directorate: Human Resources Planning Practices and Administration, and forms part of the Fund’s commitment to maintaining a secure and compliant working environment. The Security Officer will act as a frontline guardian, ensuring that all access control, patrolling and physical security measures are implemented in line with established policies, procedures and legislative requirements.

To be considered for this role, candidates must possess a Grade 12 certificate at NQF Level 4, along with a valid Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority Grade C certificate. A thorough working knowledge of relevant regulations, laws and legislation is essential, including the PSIRA, PFMA, MPSS, OHS, MISS, Firearm Control Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, and the Criminal Procedure Act. Familiarity with the Control of Access to Public Premises and Vehicle Act, the Minimum Information Security Standard, and the Minimum Physical Security Standard is also required. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a solid understanding of data and records management, physical investigations, ethics and governance, risk and control, policy and compliance, as well as the objectives, policies, procedures and processes of the Compensation Fund. Knowledge of customer service principles, particularly Batho Pele, and strong security risk awareness are equally important.

The role demands a range of practical skills, including security operations, investigation techniques, conflict management, effective communication, quality assurance, risk management, and service delivery innovation. In terms of daily responsibilities, the Security Officer will conduct security control in accordance with policy and procedure, provide security for equipment, buildings and premises, and adhere strictly to patrolling procedures. This includes monitoring access, identifying potential threats, responding to incidents, and ensuring that all security protocols are consistently upheld. The position requires a vigilant, disciplined and service-oriented individual who can work both independently and as part of a team, while maintaining professionalism and integrity at all times.
