This position is for a Road Worker within the Limpopo provincial government’s roads and infrastructure environment, as advertised through the provincial e-recruitment portal. The role is a hands-on, field-based post focused on the routine maintenance, repair and construction of roads and related infrastructure. It forms part of the broader provincial effort to keep roads safe, passable and well-maintained for communities and road users. The successful candidate will work as part of a team and will be expected to carry out a wide range of physical and technical tasks across the road network, often in outdoor conditions and in line with strict safety protocols.

To be considered, applicants must hold a qualification at NQF Level 04 as recognised by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA). Beyond the formal qualification, the ideal candidate should have a solid working knowledge of the relevant Acts and regulations that govern road works, as well as health and safety measures applicable to the roads environment. Practical skills in operating road machinery are essential, along with a sound understanding of working procedures specific to road maintenance and construction. The person profile also highlights the need for good decision-making abilities, creativity in problem-solving, effective communication, and strong planning and organising skills. Importantly, the role demands a team player who can collaborate with colleagues and supervisors to complete tasks efficiently and safely.

The core duties of the Road Worker are varied and physically demanding. Key performance areas include constructing culverts and side drains, erecting and maintaining steel guardrails and gabions, and carrying out road earthworks and layer works. The incumbent will also be responsible for cleaning and maintaining roads, sidewalks and resting areas, as well as surfacing and pothole patching. Other responsibilities include road fencing, pipe laying, setting road markings and road studs, and installing road signs and distance markers. The role further involves barricading work areas to ensure the safety of both workers and motorists, crushing road material for reuse, and performing bush clearing and grass cutting along road reserves. All of these duties must be carried out in accordance with established departmental procedures and occupational health and safety standards.

This is a government position with a salary level and reference number as indicated in the official circular, and interested applicants should take note of the closing date. Enquiries may be directed to the named contact persons, Mr P Malesa, Ms KS Mabunda or Ms P Bila. The post is advertised through the Limpopo provincial e-recruitment system, and candidates are encouraged to apply timeously and ensure that their applications are complete and meet all requirements. The role is best suited to individuals who are physically fit, safety-conscious, reliable and committed to maintaining public infrastructure to a high standard.
