The Western Cape Department of Agriculture is advertising a vacancy for an Administration Clerk at the Worcester Veld Reserve, offering an opportunity to contribute to the efficient functioning of a provincial conservation and agricultural site. This role is central to the day-to-day administrative operations of the reserve, ensuring that clerical, financial, supply chain and personnel processes run smoothly in support of the department's broader mandate. The position is suited to a detail-oriented individual who thrives in a structured public service environment and can manage multiple administrative responsibilities with accuracy and professionalism.
To be considered, applicants must hold a Senior Certificate or an equivalent qualification. A valid code B driving licence is required, although people with disabilities who are restricted from driving but have reasonable access to transport are also encouraged to apply. Candidates should possess a solid knowledge of clerical duties and practices, computer data capturing and statistics, the legislative framework governing the Public Service, and the working procedures relevant to the environment. Essential skills include computer literacy in the MS Office package, specifically Word, Excel and PowerPoint, as well as strong written and verbal communication, planning and organisational abilities, and the capacity to work both independently and as part of a team.
The incumbent will be responsible for rendering general clerical support services, which includes a wide range of routine administrative tasks. They will also provide supply chain clerical support, assisting with procurement and related processes; personnel administration clerical support, helping with human resource administration; and financial administration support, contributing to the accurate processing of financial documents. In addition, the role includes providing a reception service, meaning the clerk will often be the first point of contact for visitors and callers to the reserve, requiring a professional and courteous manner.
Shortlisted candidates should note that interviews will be held on a date and time determined by the department. They will be required to submit duly completed and signed vetting and supporting documentation within a timeframe communicated by the Western Cape Government, prior to the interview date; failure to do so without reasonable justification may result in exclusion from the process. All shortlisted candidates will also undertake two pre-entry assessments: a practical exercise measuring suitability against the post's technical and generic requirements, and an integrity assessment focused on ethical conduct. The selection process will be guided by the employment equity targets of the employing department. By applying, candidates consent to the Western Cape Government contacting previous employers or managers for reference checks, including enquiries about disciplinary records and reasons for leaving. The application process is conducted exclusively online, with technical support available during business hours, and no late applications will be considered.
