This position is a re-advertised Chief Construction Project Manager post at Grade A within the Building Infrastructure Maintenance component of the Limpopo Department of Education, based in the Mopani District. The role sits within the department’s broader responsibility for planning, delivering and maintaining education infrastructure, and it carries senior professional authority over construction project management activities. As an Occupation Specific Dispensation (OSD) graded post, the salary package is structured according to the individual’s years of experience after professional registration, meaning the successful candidate’s remuneration will be determined by the department in line with that experience.

To be considered, applicants must hold a Grade 12 or Matric certificate as well as a recognised qualification at NQF level 7 in the Built Environment, with SAQA recognition. In addition, a minimum of six years of experience as a registered Professional Construction Project Manager with the SACPCMP is required. A valid driver’s licence is essential, although applicants with disabilities are exempt from this requirement. The role demands a strong blend of technical and generic competencies. On the technical side, the post requires programme and project management expertise, sound professional judgement, computer-aided engineering and project applications, project design and analysis knowledge, operational communication, maintenance skills, mobile equipment operating skills, legal and operational compliance, research and development capability, and the ability to create a high performance culture. Generic competencies include strategic leadership, problem solving, decision making, team leadership, creativity, financial management, customer focus, communication, computer literacy, people management, planning and organising, conflict management, negotiation skills and change management.

The duties are wide-ranging and senior in nature. The post holder will be responsible for project design and analysis effectiveness, including performing final reviews, approvals and audits on project designs, coordinating design efforts across disciplines, and ensuring seamless integration with current technology. They will maintain project operational effectiveness by managing the execution of the project management strategy, providing appropriate structures, systems and resources, setting project standards, specifications and service levels, and monitoring efficiencies to direct or redirect project services towards organisational objectives. Financial management is another core area, involving the availability and management of funds to meet Medium-Term Expenditure Framework objectives, managing the operational capital project portfolio, ensuring effective resourcing, managing the commercial added value of programmes and projects, facilitating innovation proposals, and allocating, monitoring and controlling expenditure to ensure efficient cash flow. Governance responsibilities include allocating and controlling resources, compiling and managing risk logs, providing technical consulting services to minimise project risks, and managing knowledge sharing initiatives such as short-term assignments and secondments. The post also carries people management duties, including directing the development, motivation and utilisation of human resources, setting and monitoring subordinates’ key performance areas, and taking corrective action to achieve departmental objectives.

This is a senior professional post within a public sector environment, and the department will determine the final salary package based on the candidate’s years of experience following professional registration. As with all departmental vacancies, applications must be submitted on the prescribed application form and must be directed to the relevant centre as indicated in the advertisement. The closing date is specified in the original vacancy listing, and interested applicants should ensure they meet all requirements before applying. The re-advert nature of the post suggests that previous applicants who wish to be considered again may need to reapply, and all candidates should take careful note of the application instructions.
