    The role of District Director within the Limpopo Department of Education is a senior managerial position responsible for the overall leadership and coordination of basic education services in a designated education district. Two posts are available, one at Vhembe East Education District and one at Sekhukhune East Education District, both falling under the Directorate for District Management and Institutional Governance. This is a high-level role that requires strategic capability, strong people management, and a thorough understanding of the public sector and education legislative frameworks.

    Candidates must possess an NQF level 7 qualification recognised by SAQA, with a relevant postgraduate qualification in education or management serving as an advantage. A minimum of five years’ relevant experience at a middle or senior managerial level is required. The successful appointee will need to obtain the SMS Pre-Entry (Nyukela) Certificate upon appointment and must hold a valid driver’s licence, except for applicants with disabilities. The role demands a range of core and process competencies, including strategic capability and leadership, people management and empowerment, programme and project management, financial management, change management, knowledge management, service delivery innovation, problem solving and analysis, client orientation and customer focus, and effective communication. Functional computer literacy in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook is essential, as is a sound knowledge of the public sector and its regulatory and legislative framework, the education and school management regulatory framework, and financial public sector management reporting requirements.

    The District Director will be responsible for managing and coordinating the provision of integrated basic education services across the district. This includes facilitating curriculum management and delivery, learner support services, and the coordination of examinations and assessments in all school phases. The role also involves facilitating institutional management, governance and support services, as well as managing corporate and financial management services for the district and its circuits. A key function is to ensure an effective and efficient interface between the district and its circuits, and to ensure that district, circuit and school improvement plans, along with subject improvement plans, are linked and coherent with national and provincial departmental plans. Stakeholder management and cooperation within the district are also central to the position.

    This is an employment equity sensitive post, with appointments informed by the Department’s Employment Equity Plan. Shortlisted candidates, including those at SMS level, will be required to undertake two pre-entry assessments: a practical exercise to determine suitability based on the post’s technical and generic requirements, and another assessment. Successful candidates will be subjected to personnel suitability checks, including criminal record, citizenship, financial and asset record checks, as well as qualification and employment verification, and will also undergo security clearance processes.
