This senior executive position within the Limpopo Department of Education is based at Head Office in Polokwane and sits within the Branch: Curriculum Management and Delivery. The Deputy Director-General will provide strategic leadership and direction for the entire curriculum function, ensuring that schools across the province effectively implement the National Curriculum Policy framework. The role is central to improving learner outcomes, with a particular emphasis on promoting STEM subjects and integrating information technology into teaching and learning. The post also carries responsibility for examinations and assessment services, as well as the continuous professional development of teachers, making it a pivotal role in the provincial education system.
Candidates must hold a post-graduate qualification at NQF Level 8 in Education, recognised by SAQA, and have at least eight years’ experience at senior management level. The successful appointee will be required to obtain the SMS Pre-Entry (Nyukela) Certificate upon appointment and must possess a valid driver’s licence, unless disabled. The role demands a broad set of core competencies, including strategic capability and leadership, people management, programme and project management, financial management, change and knowledge management, and strong communication skills. In addition, the incumbent needs sound knowledge of relevant prescripts and legislative frameworks governing curriculum management and delivery, along with skills in negotiation, policy analysis, planning, organising, facilitation, coordination, diversity management, and computer literacy.
Key duties include providing strategic direction on the development and implementation of curriculum delivery policies, guidelines, strategies, and procedure manuals. The Deputy Director-General will design education programmes that support schools and enhance the implementation of the national curriculum, with a focus on promoting STEM subjects. The role requires guiding effective strategic coordination for curriculum management, examinations and assessment provisioning, and Continuous Professional Teacher Development. The incumbent will report regularly to the Head of Department, the Executive Authority, and oversight bodies on system performance, drawing on provincial assessment outcomes, national and international benchmark studies, and broader education trends. The post also involves initiating systems to integrate information technology in curriculum delivery and overseeing the management of financial, human, and physical resources.
This is a demanding leadership position that requires diplomacy, analytical thinking, report writing, liaison, networking, and interpersonal skills.
