This internship opportunity is situated within the Video Entertainment division of a major broadcasting organisation, reporting directly to the Head of Bouquet. The primary purpose of the On Air Administrator role is to deliver a comprehensive administrative service to the department while taking overall responsibility for managing the TVBMS (Television Broadcast Management System). This is an entry-level, structured internship designed for a candidate who has recently completed a media-related qualification and who possesses a genuine interest in the operational side of television broadcasting, particularly in the areas of on-air scheduling, promo management, and production administration.
To be considered, applicants must hold a National Diploma or Degree in a media-related field. A solid knowledge and understanding of on-air TV broadcasting is essential, as is demonstrable computer literacy and a working grasp of broadcast systems. The successful intern will need to be comfortable navigating database-driven platforms like TVBMS, as much of the daily work revolves around loading, updating, and editing programme-related information. An eye for detail, strong organisational ability, and the capacity to liaise professionally with both internal and external stakeholders are also important attributes for this fast-paced environment.
The duties attached to this role are wide-ranging and hands-on. The intern will be responsible for drafting all freelance contracts and processing the associated payments, as well as ensuring that pre-production logistics are arranged and that production is delivered according to the brief provided. During on-air production, the intern provides direct support to the unit, and afterwards completes all post-production administration to help the producer get the product ready for broadcast. A significant portion of the work involves the TVBMS system: creating media item numbers, coding all promos from both outside production houses and in-house sources, loading and updating the daily promo and pres events list, drawing promo flight reports, and maintaining the wipe list of expired titles for FCC ingest deletion. The intern also loads, updates, and edits consumer warnings, menu boards, line-up boards, fillers, stings, and bumpers before they expire, and archives old promos on the system. In addition, the role involves maintaining an effective filing system, booking studio facilities, distributing ingest forms, generating ad hoc reports, and managing promo placement for scheduling.
Beyond system tasks, the intern will serve as a key liaison for all production-related queries, communicating daily with internal and external producers and stakeholders to keep abreast of workflow for all in-house promos. The role also requires adherence to the organisation’s broadcasting regulatory provisions, quality and production standards, and standard operating procedures. The intern is expected to contribute input to the development of these SOPs and to comply fully with organisational policy. This is an excellent opportunity for a graduate seeking practical exposure to the broadcasting industry, offering broad experience across contracts, production administration, music rights, and on-air scheduling systems.
