The National Electronic Media Institute of South Africa (NEMISA) is seeking Digital Ambassadors for its Ya Rona Digital Programme, based at the Western Cape CET College Central Office in Cape Town, with work extending to surrounding areas such as Khayelitsha, Mitchells Plain and Bellville. This is a community-facing role aimed at closing the digital divide by equipping ordinary community members with basic digital literacy skills. The Digital Ambassador will report to the Project Manager of the Ya Rona Digital Programme and will receive a fixed monthly stipend for the duration of the engagement. The position is ideal for individuals who are passionate about education, technology and community development, particularly those who have been part of the Community Education and Training (CET) system.
The core purpose of the job is twofold: to first attend training on the identified basic digital literacy modules, and then to deliver that training to community members. In practice, the Ambassador must learn and apply digital literacy skills through the provided modules, actively participate in all training sessions, and mobilise community members to take part in digital literacy programmes. The role involves facilitating and conducting training sessions, liaising with the Project Manager and the CET college to secure suitable venues, and developing and maintaining a weekly training plan. The Ambassador is also responsible for ensuring that allocated weekly training targets are met and for facilitating the submission of attendance registers and progress reports. This requires strong organisational skills, reliability and the ability to work independently in community-based settings.
In terms of qualifications, the minimum requirement is Matric or Grade 12, or an equivalent qualification. A post-matric certificate, diploma or degree in ICT or Education will be an added advantage, as will a computer certificate at basic or intermediate level. Former and current CET students are particularly encouraged to apply and will receive preference. For experience, candidates should have prior exposure to training, facilitation, tutoring or community development work, and must be able to manage community-based learning activities independently. Strong practical knowledge of digital tools such as the internet, email, Microsoft Office and online platforms is advantageous, and bilingualism in a local language plus English is a plus.
Candidates should possess basic knowledge of computer packages, analytical skills, good written and verbal communication, report writing skills and computer literacy. The required competencies include impact and influence, critical judgement, decisiveness, information gathering, initiative, emotional maturity, commercial acumen, flexibility, communication, results and quality focus, and detail focus. NEMISA is committed to Employment Equity and will consider internal candidates first where this supports its equity goals. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted, and applicants who do not receive feedback within two weeks of the closing date should regard their application as unsuccessful. NEMISA reserves the right not to make any appointment. Applications must be submitted by email with a comprehensive CV, residential address, and certified copies of ID and qualifications.
