The FAIS Ombud, established under the Financial Advisory and Intermediary Services Act, is a statutory office tasked with resolving complaints in a fair, informal, economical and expeditious manner. Based in the east of Pretoria, the office is offering a twelve-month graduate training programme within its Human Resources Department. This is a structured, contract-based opportunity for one candidate who is passionate about public service and eager to build a career in the financial sector. The programme is designed to develop a pipeline of competent trainees by providing hands-on exposure to real-world HR scenarios under the guidance of a dedicated mentor. The successful candidate will be placed in the HR department and will rotate through various competency-based training opportunities, gaining practical experience in recruitment, onboarding, payroll administration, learning and development, employee wellness, and other employee engagement initiatives. This immersive approach is intended to give the graduate a comprehensive understanding of the HR value chain and prepare them for future roles in the profession.

To be considered, applicants must hold a Diploma at NQF level 6 or a Degree at NQF level 7 in Human Resource Management or a related field. South African citizenship with a valid identity document is required, along with a strong academic background and high levels of integrity. The role demands someone who is energetic, self-driven, deadline-driven, and able to perform consistently under pressure in a stressful environment. A willingness to learn and work extra hours is essential, as is computer literacy. The key performance areas include providing administrative support across all HR functions, managing employee records, supporting recruitment, selection and onboarding processes, assisting with HR compliance and governance, coordinating training and development initiatives, and supporting payroll, leave and employee benefits administration. The graduate will also help compile and maintain accurate HR reports and data.

Candidates should demonstrate people management, presentation, problem-solving, interpersonal and conflict management skills, as well as an in-depth knowledge of the HR value chain and the ability to work as part of a team. Preference will be given to black female designated group members and people living with disabilities, in line with the office’s employment equity targets. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted, and the FAIS Ombud reserves the right not to make an appointment if no suitable candidate is identified. Recommended candidates will be required to undergo a comprehensive background check, which may include security screening, psychometric testing, and verification of credentials. This is an excellent opportunity to gain meaningful experience within an established statutory office while contributing to the effective functioning of its human resources operations.
