This is a senior role within Chiefton Facilities Management, a unit responsible for the upkeep and development of government infrastructure. The Construction Project Manager will provide end-to-end management of construction and renovation projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards. The role sits within the public sector, so the incumbent must be familiar with government procurement processes, the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) regulations, and the Occupational Health and Safety Act. Working closely with internal stakeholders, consultants, and contractors, the project manager will be the central point of contact for all project-related matters.

Key qualifications and experience typically required for this position include a recognised tertiary qualification in construction management, civil engineering, or a related built-environment discipline, coupled with extensive experience in managing large-scale construction projects. Registration with the South African Council for the Project and Construction Management Professions (SACPCMP) as a Professional Construction Project Manager would be a strong advantage, as would a valid driver's licence and willingness to travel to project sites. The successful candidate should demonstrate strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills, as well as a thorough understanding of contract management, risk assessment, and quality assurance.

The main duties and responsibilities will include preparing project briefs and feasibility studies, developing detailed project plans and schedules, managing tender processes and evaluating bids, overseeing site activities to ensure compliance with specifications and safety standards, monitoring expenditure and reporting on progress, and managing any variations or disputes that arise. The project manager will also be responsible for ensuring that all projects are completed in accordance with the relevant municipal, provincial, and national building regulations, and for maintaining accurate documentation and records for audit purposes.

As this is an external vacancy, candidates from outside the public service are encouraged to apply. The appointment will be made in line with the department's employment equity plan, with the aim of promoting representativeness in the workplace. The position is graded according to the public service's occupational classification system, and the successful candidate will be expected to undergo a standard security clearance and verification of qualifications. This is a demanding but rewarding role for a seasoned construction professional looking to contribute to the delivery of essential public infrastructure.
