ARTISAN ASSISTANT (2 POSTS)

Basic literacy Relevant experience in a water environment will be an added advantage Physical fitness and health Ability to do physical work related to operation and maintenance activities for continuous periods Must undergo a criminal record check and such a person shall allow their fingerprints to be taken by the Tshwane Metro Police Department at own cost Willingness and ability to work shifts, overtime and standby Personal attributes Positive attitude; good health; good communication skills; dependability and and/or competencies trustworthiness; ability to understand and execute the supervisor’s instructions; no fear of heights; no serious physical disabilities; no back problems

Handle applicable equipment and tools in the execution of duties Dig and backfill trenches and abide by the set safety rules when digging trenches Assist the artisan plumber to open and close entrance gates and lids at reservoirs and isolate shut-off valves at reservoirs and bulk supply pipelines Assist the artisan plumber to loosen and tighten bolts and nuts on bulk water infrastructure when replacing components on bulk water infrastructure Assist the artisan plumber to strip and clean components such as dirt boxes, control valves, etc on bulk water infrastructure Assist the artisan plumber to measure reservoir levels and adjust control valves Assist the artisan plumber to wash and clean reservoirs Assist the artisan plumber with general maintenance work on bulk water infrastructure Load and offload materials, equipment, etc for specific tasks Clean vehicles, tools and equipment Clean work areas after completing tasks Assume responsibilities of the team supervisor in the absence of the artisan
