Minimum educational qualification
Basic R425 qualification (i.e. diploma/degree in nursing) or equivalent qualification (R683) that allows registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse OR A 4 year Bachelor Degree in Nursing (R174) that allows registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse OR A 3 year Diploma in Nursing (R171) that allows registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) AS A General Nurse.

Duties (key result areas/outputs)
To ensure that a holistic nursing care service is delivered to patients in a cost effective, efficient and equitable manner by the Nursing Department of the institution including the overall management of nursing services (i.e. operational, HR and Finance of the nursing department). Ensure compliance with professional and ethical practice and provide nursing strategic and operational guidance and leadership towards the realization of hospital strategic goals and objectives of the in line with the annual operational plan. Provide professional, technical and management support for the provision of quality patient care through proper management of nursing care programmes and facilitate the auditing of clinical records by analyzing data, identification of health indicators and risk factors as well as co-ordinate the conducting of client satisfaction surveys. Advocate and ensure the promotion of nursing ethos and professionalism through the maintenance of norms and standards of nursing practice and the utilization the Nursing Act and Regulations, Code of Ethics and Professional Practice of the South African Nursing Council, and the body of scientific knowledge in service rendering for maintaining professional excellence. Manage and utilise resources in accordance with relevant directives and legislation. Establish, maintain and participate in inter-professional and multi-disciplinary teamwork that promotes efficient and effective health care as well as support the utilization of information technology and other management information systems to manage nursing information for the enhancement of service delivery.
Experience
A minimum of nine (9) years appropriate / recognizable experience in nursing after registration as a Professional Nurse. At least 4 years of the period referred to above must be appropriate / recognizable experience at management level.
Competencies (knowledge/skills)
Must be computer literate and able to work with MS Office packages. Knowledge of nursing care and procedures, nursing statutes and other relevant legal framework. Nursing Act, Health Act, Skills Development Act, Public Service Regulations, Labour Relations Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Patient’s Right, Batho Pele Principles. Strong leadership, management, planning, organizing, decision making, delegation, problem solving, discipline management and resource control abilities including knowledge and understanding of People, Finance and Supply Chain Management at a hospital level. Clinical competencies and policy formulation skills, knowledge of nursing care delivery approach and good verbal and written communication skills, mentorship and supervisory skills.
