DEPARTMENT: PLANNING & DEVELOPMENT SERVICES
MANAGER: TOURISM
PERMANENT POSITION

SALARY: R511 248,96 per annum

REQUIREMENTS:

• Matric
• Bachelor's Degree in Tourism Management, Hospitality, Social Sciences, Marketing or equivalent NQF level 7 qualification.
• Postgraduate qualification will be an added advantage
• 5+ years relevant experience in Tourism, of which 2 years must be in a supervisory/management role
• Experience in a municipal government environment will be an added advantage
• Valid Driver's License

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Develop and review the Municipal Tourism Strategy and Implementation Plan aligned to District, Provincial and National Tourism frameworks
• Ensure tourism is integrated into the IDP, SDF, and other municipal planning documents
• Conduct tourism research, visitor profiling, and trend analysis to inform decision-making
• Monitor compliance with tourism legislation, grading standards, and municipal by-laws
• Develop and implement a destination marketing strategy for the Municipality
• Manage the Municipality's brand presence at tourism shows, exhibitions, and roadshows - provincially, nationally and internationally
• Oversee content for tourism website, social media, brochures, and promotional material
• Build relationships with SAT, KZN Tourism, District Tourism, media, and travel trade
• Identify, support and package tourism products, routes, and experiences in the Municipality
• Work with tourism associations, private sector and communities to develop new attractions and events
• Liaise with accommodation establishments, tour operators and attractions on standards and service delivery
• Coordinate and chair the Municipal Tourism Forum / Association
• Liaise with SAPS, Tourism Safety Monitors, and other agencies on tourism safety
• Partner with District Municipality, KZN Tourism and SAT on joint campaigns
• Engage traditional leaders, ward councillors and communities on tourism awareness
• Manage the Tourism budget, grants and funding applications
• Prepare reports for Council, Portfolio Committee, and external stakeholders
• Manage staff, assets and resources within the Tourism Unit
• Ensure compliance with MFMA, Supply Chain, and HR policies
