This position is for a General Worker based at the Head Office in Polokwane, within the Directorate Records Management and Auxiliary Services of the Limpopo Provincial Treasury. The role is central to maintaining a safe, clean, and orderly physical environment around the departmental premises. As part of the auxiliary services team, the incumbent will ensure that the building’s exterior and surrounding areas are well-kept, that gardens and trees are properly maintained, and that materials, furniture, and equipment are moved and stored correctly. The role also involves operating industrial trucks and electric hoists to assist with loading and moving heavy items, making it a physically demanding but essential support function within the department.
To be considered for this post, applicants must have AET, ABET, or Grade 10 as a minimum educational requirement. In addition, candidates need sound and in-depth knowledge of providing housekeeping services. This implies practical familiarity with cleaning standards, garden maintenance, and the safe handling of tools and products used in these tasks. While no formal experience is specified, the ability to perform manual labour, follow instructions, and work under the supervision of a supervisor is essential.
The main duties of the General Worker are varied and hands-on. The incumbent will be responsible for cutting and maintaining trees, looking after the departmental yard, and performing cleaning tasks for the building’s exterior and its immediate surroundings. Proper handling of garden tools and products is required to ensure safety and longevity of equipment. The role also involves loading and off-loading furniture, equipment, and other goods to relevant destinations, as well as moving materials from storage areas to designated workspaces. The worker must label and store materials as instructed, ensuring that storage areas remain organised. Additionally, the efficient operation of industrial trucks and electric hoists is a key responsibility, as these are used to assist with moving heavy loads. General duties allocated by the supervisor must also be carried out as needed.
Applicants should note that this is a public service post with a structured recruitment process. The department requires the use of the latest Z83 application form, which must be fully and correctly completed. A detailed Curriculum Vitae must accompany the application, as it serves as an extension of the Z83. Shortlisted candidates will be required to bring certified copies of qualifications and other documents on the day of the interview, and all shortlisted applicants will be subjected to security clearance, personnel suitability checks, pre-entry assessments, and verification of qualifications. Foreign qualifications must be evaluated by SAQA. Successful candidates will be expected to sign a performance agreement within one month of assuming duty. These conditions ensure that the appointment process is transparent, merit-based, and aligned with public service regulations.
