This position is for a Logistic Practitioner within the Directorate Supply Chain Management at the Head Office in Polokwane, with two posts available. The role sits within the provincial treasury’s supply chain environment and is responsible for the accurate capturing, verification, and processing of procurement transactions. As a Logistic Practitioner, you will work with the LOGIS and BAS systems, ensuring that orders, quotations, and supporting documentation are correctly recorded and committed. The role is operational but requires a solid understanding of financial management, procurement procedures, and internal controls. It is an OSD-graded position at Level 07, and the successful candidates will be expected to maintain accuracy and compliance with departmental policies and standards.
To be considered, applicants must hold an NQF level 6 qualification in Supply Chain Management, Financial Management, Logistics Management, or a related field recognised by SAQA. In addition, at least two years of working experience in logistics or supply chain management is required. A LOGIS Certificate or results is also a mandatory requirement. The ideal candidate will possess a range of knowledge and skills, including an understanding of managerial functions, finance, human resource matters, planning and organising, report compilation, research and analysis, technical standards and procedures, and the needs and priorities of the department. The ability to interpret and apply policy, analytical and innovative thinking, computer literacy, conflict management, financial management, adaptability during change, and change and diversity management are all essential competencies for this role.
The main duties involve capturing information on the memorandum of goods and services, checking that three quotations or a letter of award are attached, and verifying all supporting documents before capturing. The practitioner must also check budget allocations and specimen signatures. On the LOGIS and BAS systems, the role includes capturing and committing orders, verifying captured information, modifying quotations, linking quotations, and capturing and approving procurement advice. Administrative responsibilities include faxing entity forms and orders to suppliers and service providers, confirming services with providers, entering account copies into the prescribed register and submitting them to the accounts division, and filing copies of orders. The practitioner is also responsible for clearing outstanding commitments, cancelling or modifying orders, and making enquiries on outstanding orders.
Applicants should note that this is a public service vacancy, and the department has specific application requirements. The new Z83 application form must be completed in full, with all relevant fields in Parts A, C, and D, and Part B completed except where exemptions apply for passport numbers, business interests, or professional registration. A detailed CV must be attached, as it serves as an extension of the Z83. Certified copies of qualifications are not required at the application stage, but shortlisted candidates must submit them to human resources on or before the interview date. Foreign qualifications must be evaluated by SAQA. The reference number for the post must be quoted on the Z83. These conditions are important to ensure the application is not disqualified.
