The Limpopo Provincial Treasury, through its Information Communication Technology directorate, is advertising a Network Controller position based at Head Office in Polokwane. This is a level 08 post within the public service, and the successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day technical operation and support of the department’s ICT environment. The role is central to ensuring that the organisation’s network, servers, and end-user systems remain secure, stable, and available to support the Treasury’s core functions.

To be considered for this position, applicants must hold an NQF level 6 qualification in Information Technology or a related field, recognised by SAQA, and have at least two years of functional experience in IT or a related discipline. A valid driver’s licence is required, with an exception made for persons with disabilities. The ideal candidate will possess a broad range of knowledge and skills, including a sound understanding of the legislative framework governing the Public Service, managerial and financial functions, human resource matters, planning and organising, report compilation, research and analysis, and computer literacy. In addition, the role demands strong negotiation, people management, problem-solving, time management, strategic planning, policy analysis, communication, facilitation, coordination, leadership, and change and knowledge management abilities, as well as an appreciation of group dynamics and diversity management.

The duties of the Network Controller are extensive and cover several key areas. In terms of end user support, the incumbent will provide first- and second-line technical assistance, diagnosing and resolving hardware, software, network, and application issues, while also assisting with the installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of ICT equipment and standard business applications. They will also guide users to improve ICT literacy and productive use of organisational systems. On the server and domain side, the role involves administering a secure Windows domain environment, including Active Directory, Group Policy, user accounts, and access controls, as well as managing Windows Server infrastructure through configuration, patching, performance monitoring, and backup and recovery. The Network Controller will also implement and enforce security controls across the server and domain environment, including access permissions, audit policies, and endpoint protection integration. For local area networking, the position requires designing, configuring, and maintaining LAN infrastructure such as switches, routers, cabling, and wireless access points, monitoring performance, troubleshooting issues, and implementing network security measures like VLANs, access control lists, and segmentation. Capacity planning is another core duty, involving monitoring ICT resource usage, analysing performance data, generating reports, and developing strategies to ensure scalable and cost-effective infrastructure. Finally, the incumbent will manage ICT infrastructure change requests by logging, assessing, planning, coordinating, testing, documenting, and validating changes to minimise disruption and ensure successful handover into production.

Applicants should note that this post is subject to the general public service recruitment process. The department requires all applications to be submitted on the new Z83 form, which must be completed in full, with specific attention to the fields in Parts A, C, and D, and with allowances made for South African applicants regarding passport numbers and declarations of business interests. The closing date and application procedures are as indicated in the advertisement, and enquiries may be directed to the named contact persons at the provided telephone number. This is an opportunity for a skilled ICT professional to contribute to the digital stability and security of a provincial government department.
