This position sits within the Governance, Monitoring and Compliance directorate of the Limpopo Provincial Treasury, based at the Head Office in Polokwane. The role is focused entirely on strengthening governance and compliance across provincial public entities and their subsidiaries. As an Assistant Director, the incumbent will act as a key support and supervisory figure, ensuring that these entities operate within the legal and regulatory frameworks set out by the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA) and Treasury Regulations. The work is central to promoting accountability, transparency and sound financial management in the provincial public sector.

To be considered, applicants need an NQF level 7 qualification in Commerce, Accounting, Financial Management or Internal Auditing, recognised by SAQA. They must also have at least three years of functional experience at a supervisory, senior or administrative officer level, specifically within internal control or a related field. A valid driver’s licence is required, although an exception is made for persons with disabilities. The role demands a strong working knowledge of planning, organising and coordinating activities, as well as managerial and secretarial functions. The ability to interpret Treasury directives, the PFMA and Treasury Regulations is essential, along with skills in report writing, research, analysis, computer literacy, and policy application. The ideal candidate will also demonstrate leadership, project and conflict management, financial and strategic management, and the capacity to adapt to change and diversity.

The duties are wide-ranging and include coordinating the implementation of compliance norms, standards, policies and guidelines across provincial public entities. The post holder will draft new policies and guidelines in line with Section 18 of the PFMA, and coordinate compliance checklists and templates. They will facilitate the financial management capacity maturity model, help entities address irregular, fruitless and wasteful expenditure, and support the Irregular Expenditure Condonement Committee by arranging meetings, preparing packs, drafting minutes and assessing condonement applications. The role also involves monitoring governance compliance, supporting the development and implementation of AGSA audit action plans, analysing 30-day payment compliance, and reporting on resolutions from oversight structures such as Audit and Risk Committees and SCOPA. Monthly and quarterly reporting, as well as monitoring the implementation of delegation of authority and internal control frameworks, form part of the core responsibilities.

Applicants should note that the application process requires the completion of the new Z83 form, with all relevant fields completed, and a CV attached as an extension of the form. Those already employed in the public service do not need to complete Part F. The department encourages applications from all eligible groups, and persons with disabilities are particularly welcomed. This is a demanding but rewarding role for a professional with a strong governance background and a commitment to clean and effective public administration.
