NUCLEAR MEDICINE RADIOGRAPHER: GRADE 1-3

This position offers an opportunity for a qualified nuclear medicine radiographer to join the Limpopo Department of Health, working within a hospital or clinical environment that serves both inpatients and outpatients. The role is structured across three grades, allowing professionals at different stages of their careers to apply, from those who have just completed their registration to highly experienced practitioners with two decades of service. As a nuclear medicine radiographer, the successful candidate will be responsible for delivering patient-centered diagnostic and therapeutic imaging services while adhering strictly to the scope of practice and established health protocols. The work involves performing and assisting with complex nuclear medicine procedures, ensuring that all equipment is inspected and used in line with safety standards, and carrying out delegated tasks as required by the department.

Applicants must hold an appropriate qualification that enables registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa in Nuclear Medicine Radiography, and they must already be registered with the HPCSA in this specialty. The grade at which the successful candidate is appointed depends on their years of relevant experience after registration: Grade 1 requires no post-registration experience, Grade 2 requires a minimum of ten years, and Grade 3 requires a minimum of twenty years. In addition to clinical qualifications, the role demands a willingness to work in a flexible or shift system, as nuclear medicine services often operate outside of standard hours. Computer literacy is essential, including proficiency in MS Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and virtual meeting platforms, as these tools are used for communication, record keeping, and reporting.

The core duties of this position are broad and include rendering effective nuclear medicine services for both inpatients and outpatients, assisting in or performing complex procedures, and maintaining a high standard of quality assurance. The radiographer will be expected to implement and maintain the National Core Standards and norms at departmental level, which involves regular record keeping, data collection, and supporting budget control and asset management. The role also requires active participation in the professional development of oneself, colleagues, and members of the interdisciplinary team, ensuring that the department remains up to date with best practices and evolving techniques.

The ideal candidate will possess a sound knowledge of nuclear medicine diagnostic procedures and equipment, along with clinical competency and manual dexterity in performing procedures. Strong communication and problem-solving skills are important, as is a thorough understanding of health and safety policies, regulations, and acts. Knowledge of quality assurance procedures and methods is also critical, as is a sound understanding of radiation safety and protection regulations.
