This vacancy is for a Professional Nurse Specialty, graded as PN-B1 at Grade 1 or Grade 2, within the Limpopo Department of Health. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing direction and supervision in the implementation of the nursing plan, with a strong focus on clinical practice and quality patient care. Working within a multi-disciplinary clinical team, the nurse will contribute to all aspects of clinical care, ensuring that nursing and healthcare delivery aligns with established standards, quality indicators, and the legal and regulatory framework governing nursing in South Africa. Efficient and effective utilisation of human, material, and physical resources is also a core part of the role, meaning the incumbent must be able to manage workloads and resources in a busy healthcare environment.
To be considered, applicants must hold a basic R425 qualification, which is a diploma or degree in nursing, or an equivalent qualification that permits registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a professional nurse. In addition, a post-basic nursing qualification in one of the recognised specialty nursing areas is required, with a duration of at least one year and accredited by the SANC. It is important to note that for Neonatal ICU nursing, this post-basic qualification requirement is excepted, as are the associated specialty registration requirements. Current registration with the SANC as a Professional Nurse in the appropriate specialty is also essential, again with the exception for Neonatal ICU. The role is offered at two grades. For Grade 1, a minimum of four years of appropriate and recognisable nursing experience after registration as a Professional Nurse with the SANC in General Nursing is required. For Grade 2, the requirement is a minimum of fourteen years of such experience, of which at least ten years must be appropriate experience in the specific specialty after obtaining the one-year post-basic qualification in that specialty. Candidates must also be willing to work in a flexi or shift system, as healthcare services operate around the clock.
The ideal candidate will possess strong knowledge and skill in nursing care processes and procedures relevant to the specialty areas. Good communication, report writing, facilitation, liaison, networking, and problem-solving skills are essential, along with information management capabilities and computer literacy. These competencies are necessary to coordinate care, document outcomes, and interact effectively with patients, families, and other healthcare professionals. This is a provincial government position, and the vacancy is advertised through the Limpopo e-recruitment portal. As an OSD-graded post, the salary and benefits are determined according to government regulations, and the position is subject to the usual public service conditions. Applicants should review the specific closing date and application instructions provided on the recruitment portal. This is an opportunity for experienced professional nurses with specialty qualifications to contribute to public healthcare delivery in Limpopo, taking on a leadership role in nursing practice and quality patient care.
